||
<p>The word ‘Providence’ means the history of God and men working together for God’s purpose. Therefore, the very first step in understanding the Providence is to understand God. Unless we know about God, we cannot know about the Providence, and providential history means nothing to us.</p>
|
||
<p>Behind each of you in this room there is a history. You are the fruit of that history, as well as the foundation of contemporary history heading toward the future. You are dwelling in the center of past, present and future.</p>
|
||
<p>If we merely existed on the human level, we could not aspire to anything beyond ourselves. We could not imagine anything higher or greater than the human being. There are multitudes of human viewpoints. Standing on the same mountain, ten people can see from ten different angles. They can look down on a river and see various parts of it, for example. Everybody has his own personal world view, national view, and universal view. Yet all people have it in their nature to look forward to something better in the future. People in the past were hoping for something better to come, perhaps greater prosperity or a higher, more noble standard.</p>
|
||
<p>So people have within themselves the desire to achieve something higher than what they have at the present time. This striving upward extends to the realm of ideals. Human beings are striving for the highest, most noble of ideals, and therefore the yearning for God is truly a natural expression of human nature.</p>
|
||
<p>What about God? If God truly exists, what is His aspiration? If God is also striving for a higher and nobler goal, there would seem to be no possibility for man to achieve an encounter with God. The question, then, is whether God’s ideal is a straight upward line, or does it make a circling motion and come back to the original point? If God just moved upward higher and higher in a straight line, then no ideal could be achieved.</p>
|
||
<p>The smoothest motion is of the absolutely circular shape. No matter how huge our universe maybe it is at least a depth and width of 21 billion light years-it must have a spherical shape. That is most important. When you travel from one point, you don’t plan to go out and keep on going and just disappear. It is most satisfying to come back to the original point.</p>
|
||
<p>In any circle or globe, no matter how gigantic, there must be a center or core. Everything within that globe has to be existing in a harmonious relationship with the core. If someone is pulling that core from one position to another, what happens? The entire globe has to move as well.</p>
|
||
<p>If you could grab God, what would you like to do with Him? Would you want to penetrate God, shove Him away, or destroy Him? Wouldn’t you want to embrace Him, completely encircling and possessing Him? Suppose you covered up God, creating a globe with Him as the core and yourself as the outer covering. What next? Would God just stay imprisoned in the middle, or wouldn’t He cover you up, too, creating another layer of relationship? Then you would cover Him up and the process would continue. That is a relationship of many layers and one in which you will find true happiness. Don’t you agree?</p>
|
||
<p>If those layers upon layers are heavy, pressing against one another, that would be suffocating. Therefore, it is important what kind of layers you create-are they oppressive layers or harmonious layers? Everybody likes harmony. That is the source of joy and fun.</p>
|
||
<p>Almighty God is so gigantic, He is beyond your imagination. Compared to God, each one of us is smaller than a tiny ant. How can someone as small as that harmonize with a giant being like God? What sort of element makes that possible? Actually, it’s not the size of the beings that determines whether they can harmonize. It doesn’t matter how big one person is or how small the other. There must be some other aspect, some element that brings them together into absolute harmony.</p>
|
||
<p>Let me ask you: would you rather eat a delicious meal or go out to work? Even though somebody said ‘work,’ I know everyone would prefer to enjoy good food. What about wearing nice clothing? Wouldn’t you rather feel comfortably dressed than have to wear rough clothes and go out to fight? Nobody really likes the idea of struggle. Yet life is full of it, particularly in the work arena where we must struggle every day to make more money. Companies compete continuously for business and dollars.</p>
|
||
<p>Fighting itself is not an enjoyable thing, but there is an element of joy when you are fighting for something good. Through fighting we can either improve something or destroy something. Two different kinds of results can be engendered. What about a fight between two sides which are both good? What will be the result? Can goodness still be engendered when there is conflict between two parties of goodness? In order to advance toward some higher goal, that process is necessary.</p>
|
||
<p>Let’s look at the recent 24th Olympics in Seoul, Korea. Champions from around the world came together there. Just to be able to attend the Olympics, those athletes had to go through a tremendous process of competition, fighting to achieve the position of best in their nation. Is that kind of fight a good one or a bad one?</p>
|
||
<p>What about those who were defeated and eliminated from the competition? Imagine the sadness of people who worked, trained and struggled for four years in order to compete for the Olympics. They worked so hard, yet they were defeated in just a few minutes. That’s the end for them. Those men and women are bound to be heartbroken and miserable; yet they serve a great purpose. Those who are defeated are the ladder or stepping stone for those who eventually win. Without the defeated, there can be no champion. They can say, ‘You won the gold medal because I came in second. I served a purpose, so I am a part of your gold medal.’ When a competitor thinks like that, he won’t feel so bad.</p>

||
<p>Therefore, the most important thing is the ultimate purpose for which you work or fight. When you are working for a great and noble purpose, you will have much competition; there will be lots of winners and losers. It is a huge ladder you have to climb. However, once you achieve that ultimate goal, the whole process can be regarded as good. Anybody who is fighting and giving sacrificially for a cause greater than himself is part of a good process, even though there is inevitably struggle and conflict.</p>

||
<p>Contrast this to someone else who is working for a self-centered goal, trying to achieve his own selfish or criminal ideal. In order to achieve it, he fights and struggles. In that case, the whole process, including the struggling, is evil.</p>
|
||
<p>We just witnessed the outcome of the U.S. presidential elections. Dukakis and Bush and their respective parties had been in the process of struggle for the past 18 months. If either candidate had been working only for the good of his own party, then that would have been self-serving, and the struggle would not have been a worthy one. But as long as both candidates are working for the benefit of the whole nation, then the process is a good one. George Bush won, but he is not the Republican president. He is the president of the United States.</p>

<p>The point is that when you are pursuing a greater and nobler purpose, fighting for that purpose is a good fight. But any fight that is for selfish purposes is an evil fight and creates a downward motion. When I came to this country, I engaged in tremendous struggle and confrontation. When I struggled with the United States of America, it was not for the purpose of bringing this country down. It was only to improve the well-being of the world and therefore this country. That is why my fight has been a good and noble one.</p>

<p>Looking at my incarceration in Danbury prison, the United States might declare that it won the fight against Reverend Moon. However, from the greater Providential point of view, the United States is the loser and Reverend Moon is the winner. That is because I was fighting for the greatest purpose of the world and the ultimate advance of this nation, while the United States was opposing me. Who is Cain and Abel in this struggle?</p>

<p>What is the most important commodity or element in the world? Is it the almighty dollar? Money is very important and good, so is it greater than the nation and the world? After all, with enough money, you can just about buy the nation and even the world, right? What about the importance of knowledge? The more you know, the better equipped you are to pursue your goal. So knowledge is a tool, not the goal in itself. Then there is power. That must be the most important thing.</p>

<p>Look at George Bush. He has the greatest position of power in this country. Suppose he decided to go out to the velvet-green lawn of the White House and show off his power. Imagine that he shouted, ‘I have the greatest power, so I demand that all you blades of grass turn brown and die!’ Would the green grass obey George Bush? Suppose he sent a declaration to the birds, ‘I am commanding that no more creatures should fly through the air!’ Would the birds obey? Of course not. Then what kind of power is that?</p>

||
<p>Even though we recognize the limitation of all these temporal things, still human beings pursue money, knowledge and power. What about God? What does God pursue? He doesn’t need money, knowledge or power, since He can create those things at any time. Is there anything in this universe for which God says, ‘I want that so badly, I am going after it with all my might’? Is there something which God works hard every day to obtain? Do you think God has some purpose and daily goal? Surely He has something, or otherwise His life would be dull.</p>

||
<p>Look at yourself. If you had nothing to do and just sat around every day, you would be a bored, unhappy person. You want some goal to achieve, and so does God. God made Life with a purpose and with meaning. What is it that God has been doing every day throughout history without resting? That is what we call the Providence.</p>
|
||
<p>If you pull one particular string, you can pull God in any direction you want. When you pull that string, even God becomes helpless. What is that string of God’s vulnerability? If there is such a thing, you want to know about it, don’t you? What we are talking about is TL-True Love, with capital letters. When you just talk about love, it is often a cheap word. Americans say, ‘I love this thing, I love that. I love my cat.’ But God is not talking about cheap love. There are a lot of husbands going to work every day, kissing their wives and saying, ‘I love you, darling.’ The wife says, ‘I love you, too, dear. Have a great day.’ But how deep is the root of their love?</p>

||
<p>The root of love must be digging deeper and deeper, as well as blossoming higher and higher. What is the importance of a woman loving her husband, or a man loving his wife? If that love is not connected to anything greater or higher, then it doesn’t serve any true purpose. The love of men and women must be connected to the love of the clan, the extended family. Is that the end of it? No, beyond that there is a greater tribe or community, and the nation. So the tribe belongs to the nation, the nation belongs to the world and the world to the cosmos.</p>

<p>The true center and root of the cosmos is God; therefore, true love has to be that deep, reaching the ultimate core which is God. Each of us has to reach GTL-God’s True Love. Husband and wife are saying, ‘Darling, I love you,’ but that does not go beyond the horizontal level. No true love has ever before existed between husband and wife. Why is that? It is because no true husband or true wife has ever existed. How could there be true love?</p>

||
<p>What is true love? What is a true husband or wife? The true husband and the true wife are each directly connected to GTL. When God says that their love is true, then God’s True Love will be with them. But when we try to claim that our love is true by our small human standards, God will not be able to follow that. No matter how intensely a husband and wife may love one another, if they fail to love their country, then they cannot belong to GTL.</p>
|
||
<p>What about the country? We have to have a true country, as well as a true husband and wife. Every level has to be connected to GTL. Therefore, you must become men and women who can connect with and communicate directly with Gods’ True Love. That has to be your foundation and position; without that, you cannot move about freely.</p>
|
||
<p>God’s True Love is the greatest of all pluses, so all the rest of the universe, including all the true husbands and wives, will be together as the greatest of all minuses. The true man is loved by his true wife, his true community, true nation, world and universe. That’s the kind of man we are talking about. The same applies for true woman.</p>

<p>There are two kinds of members of the Unification Church: the true ones and the not-so-true ones. What is a true member of the Unification Church? True members are connected all the way from the bottom to the top with GTL. True members say, ‘We have to give love to our country in this national campaign, so let’s do it!’ The other kind says, ‘Well, I don’t care about America or the world. I’m just a Unification Church member.’</p>

<p>Let’s say one member is working for the sake of the world. Then I ask him, ‘What about working for the sake of the universe, for God’s sake?’ Suppose he says, ‘Oh, no, I don’t need to. I’m already working for the world.’ Is that a good enough member? Are you that type? True members are connected to the root and all the way to the top of GTL. Can there be flowers or trees without roots? Why do they need their roots? As long as the root is intact, they can maintain their life. The cycle of the seasons-from blossoming to bearing fruit, and so on-can continue. That’s the circular motion of their life.</p>

<p>Imagine two different women. One is beautiful to look at, sitting inside a room on a lovely chair, clutching artificial flowers. She looks like a doll, but she has no root. Then there is another woman who is out working in the garden, digging up the dirt and laying out fertilizer. She and her clothing stink, but she is holding a bunch of real flowers and enjoying their fragrance with a smile on her face. Which woman represents the true woman? Certainly, it would be the second one.</p>

<p>Let’s get back to this question: What does God want and like the most? Now you have a very good idea. You and God both have the same desire: to hold onto something precious and never be separated from it. Once you unlock the secret of what God considers precious, you can hold onto that and also be connected to God forever. Of course, we are talking about GTL-God’s True Love.</p>

<p>No matter how much you have been preached to, it hasn’t really come into your very bones. This is the problem. Even though you may think you understand true love, I am talking about something much deeper. That true love is connected all the way to God, not just to husband and wife, not just to the clan, the tribe, nation or world. It must go all the way to God. That must be our goal.</p>
|
||
<p>If there is truly a true love, then God wants to hold onto it. Likewise, all people want to hold onto it because we have the same desire. True love is the goal of God and the goal of man.</p>
|
||
<p>True love is spherical and everything is contained within its parameters. Even my smelly foot belongs to true love. True love doesn’t say, ‘You stinky old foot, get out!’ Smelly feet are like fertilizer to true love. Even Satan himself can be encircled by true love.</p>
|
||
<p>Christianity and all the world religions have been talking about the greatness of love. Love is the most altruistic impulse. When you know the depth of true love, you can understand the meaning of Jesus’ command: ‘Love your enemies.’</p>
|
||
<p>Do you think you can occupy God’s kingdom? True love has been in existence for millions and millions of years. God created this universe which is so gigantic you can’t even imagine it. Yet you small guys and gals who were born in the present time can say, ‘I’m going to occupy God.’ Can you occupy that infinite, universal God and His True Love? Yes! As I said originally, it doesn’t matter how big one side may be or how tiny the other side is.</p>
|

<p>God created this universe for a reason. What was it? Was it for His own selfish purposes? God created for the purpose of experiencing joy, but what is the core of that joy? Simply, God created everything for the sake of the fulfillment of true love.</p>
|
||
<p>What is involved in the fulfillment of true love? Did God create the universe for the primary goal of receiving true love, or for giving it? Yes, giving true love comes first. In English, you always say, ‘Give and take,’ not ‘Take and give.’ That’s good, but while your mouth is saying ‘give’ first, your hand is taking first. That is the primary problem of America today-taking rather than giving. America should give itself for the sake of the world. The citizens of this great country don’t understand this point. The government doesn’t understand it, either. Maybe President Bush should change his name to ‘Push,’ which is equivalent to give. When you push out, you are giving of your effort and self.</p>

||
<p>The Principle of True Love requires giving before receiving. Then there can be multiplication and growth. But when there is taking and selfishness, there is shrinking and, ultimately, total loneliness. The person who always takes finds himself alone, while the one who gives is surrounded by others. When you give, it eventually comes back to you, along with interest. A person may leave his home and go off to a foreign land, as did Abraham in the Bible. But once he fulfills his goal, where does he go? He goes back to the original point, to his home.</p>

||
<p>By giving, you grow and prosper. This simple secret is not understood by most people. Why is that? It is because they do not understand God’s purpose of creation and how He created. Almighty God poured Himself out into His creation, giving every ounce of His energy. Giving, as we said, produces growth and prosperity. That’s why this universe is so vast. Anyone who lives parallel to this Principle of Creation will therefore prosper and grow.</p>
|
||
<p>What are God’s ultimate goals? True love is God’s goal, and in order to achieve it, He needs a partner, an object. Love requires a circuit-two, not one. Can true love be shared between two women? No, that is sisterly love. Only a man and a woman can create the circuit of true love because they represent the two extremes.</p>
|
||
<p>In the relationship between man and woman, can they just take love from one another? Is that the first step? No, if two people try to take from each other, their relationship will fall apart. But when they give, they create a vacuum within themselves and the force of the universe will fill them up. Thus they will have greater and greater power. The process of giving to one another pushes them into circular motion. What is the axis of their motion? It is true love.</p>

||
<p>Anybody who makes giving his life’s guiding principle will find the entire universe as his ally, supporting and protecting him. But anyone who consistently takes from others will be making an enemy out of the universal power, finding himself isolated and rejected. God’s way is giving, while Satan’s way is taking.</p>

<p>When you American women get married, are you thinking primarily about giving love or receiving</p>
|
||
<p>it? More and more Western men are rejecting the typical American woman in favor of the Oriental woman. Why is that? Many American women want to control and take from their man. They say, ‘You must take care of me and love me.’ On the other hand, the Japanese and Korean women say, ‘I will serve you. I give myself to you.’ The root of true love is eternal giving-without end.</p>
|
||
<p>According to the laws of the physical universe, power which is expended will dissipate and decrease. But true love power is increased when it is output; it multiplies and becomes greater and greater. This is why true love is such a secret and why so many people don’t want to practice it. They need to understand that the True Love Principle is the only way to bring prosperity to themselves and to humanity as a whole, now and forever.</p>

||
<p>Look at the histories of all the major religions. Each started out small and none was established without going through persecution. Yet as each religious group practiced the True Love Principle, it grew and developed.</p>
|
||
<p>As you know, I was incarcerated in Danbury prison for 13 months. That was a totally unjust imprisonment representing a vendetta against me and the Unification Church. However, it made history. Now, when Korean and Japanese members come to the United States, they feel they must go to Danbury and offer a prayer. Otherwise, they have no purpose in coming to America. That feeling is growing and increasing.</p>
|
||
<p>When I first went to Danbury, there was tremendous hostility toward me on the part of the government, as well as the prison officials and even the inmates. They did many shameful things and tried to embarrass me. But what happened? Day by day, the people in the prison changed their attitude toward me. Eventually, they were all melted. Why is that? It is because I live the Principle of giving. In every way, I gave of myself in the prison. By the time I was released, the inmates gave me a tearful, heroic send off.</p>
|
||
<p>What was the result of Danbury? Did I decline or prosper there? Because I practiced the Principle without deviation, the results were total prosperity.</p>
|
||
<p>Think about it. Look at this humble horse stable here at Belvedere. Why do you suppose we haven’t replaced it with a great temple? This is the starting point for our great prosperity. This humble stable could not be exchanged for the Versailles palace in France. In the future. millions of people will come here to sit and pray and shed tears because this is where true love was taught by the True Parents.</p>

||
<p>The only thing which Almighty God needs is love. In order to attain that love, He requires an object. Thus He created the object of true love. Think about how serious God was when He created man and woman. Was He just entertaining Himself by creating, like enjoying a hobby? No, God was creating people who would become equal partners with Him in true love. Would that urge of God to share His love be less than or stronger than men and women yearning for each other? It is even stronger. In human society, men have sometimes challenged one another to duels to the death in order to obtain the love of a woman. Think about how much more serious is God’s determination.</p>
|
||
<p>God is the root of all love; that root is therefore most dedicated and serious. In common Christian understanding, God simply said one day, ‘Let there be light,’ and snap! It happened while God laid back and rested. Then He said, “Let the oceans arise,’ and so on, and the rest of creation happened without much ado. God is seen as rather complacent about the act of creation. But, I tell you, God invested every ounce of His great energy-every bit of Himself was poured into the act of creating this universe.</p>
|
||
<p>God was creating human beings in His exact image in order that we might be His partners of love. We were given the capacity to accommodate God’s almighty love. God certainly wanted to enjoy a full return on His investment, so how seriously would He have given Himself? The resulting man and woman were His supreme form of creation. God’s expectation was that man and woman would give of themselves fully and freely and would eventually become one through the power of love. God’s own power was the force driving the love power.</p>
|
||
<p>Man and woman were supposed to give of themselves totally, emptying themselves out, holding nothing back. Thus they could swap positions with each other. They would give more and more, swapping positions, then give more, changing positions again and moving back and forth in that process. That is how their circling motion was to continue. What was to be the center point of that circling motion? Their axis was to be true love.</p>
|
||
<p>Without an axis, turning motion becomes chaotic. So husband and wife must be centered upon the proper vertical axis between God and man. There is only one vertical axis, not two, creating that gigantic circular motion between God and mankind. Yet within that larger sphere are all the smaller, parallel vertical and horizontal lines. Different cultures, geographical locations and so forth have their varying spheres, but they must all be aligned with the central axis of the universe. The basic rule is that each vertical line should be always parallel with the central one. Horizontal lines should be always parallel with the central horizontal line.</p>
|
||
<p>Should East and West harmonize or clash? Which of the two is plus, which minus? Actually, it doesn’t matter which takes the plus or minus position.</p>
|
||
<p>Your mind and body represent the vertical line and the horizontal line, respectively. In other words, your mind is your vertical self and your body is your horizontal self. So two selves combined into one gives you your true self. Both the mind and the body have desires and goals to achieve. Your mind desires something greater, nobler, higher along the vertical line, while your body seeks for acquisition along the horizontal line. When your vertical desire grows in accordance with your horizontal desire, that is fine. But the problem is that the vertical desire stops and the horizontal desire grows all out of proportion. That is where evil comes in.</p>
|
||
<p>In relation to the universe, God is the Master of the vertical line, while the universe itself is the horizontal God.</p>
|
||
<p>We could give another definition of true love. It is where the vertical, mind-centered love and the horizontal, body-centered love cross at 90 degrees. Why 90 degrees? That perfect right angle can fit anywhere in the circle. Suppose it were just one degree off, say 91 degrees. Is that okay? No, it will not fit properly within the circle, so it is not good enough. True love must be absolutely perfect, with no room for deviation.</p>
|
||
<p>Minus and plus must go to the center to be united. You cannot set the place of unity arbitrarily. Your horizontal line must be aligned perfectly so that it crosses the vertical line at 90 degrees wherever it goes. That is the law. Only at this perfect juncture point does True Love become acceptable. No deviation from that can be acceptable. This 90 degree crossing point is called the definition of true love. This is exactly how God wants His relationship to be with man and woman-the 90 degree true love relationship. Once that happens, nothing can separate you. You will know nothing but expansion of joy, prosperity, and development of your love.</p>
|
||
<p>Centering upon God at the vertical line, man and woman come toward each other along the horizontal line and finally meet at the center. That is the original line of the Principle of Creation. Perfection or maturity of human beings means they have reached the center, they understand God’s True Love and this vertical line. You are meant to grow through your childhood to that level of completion.</p>
|
||
<p>When a boy grows to a certain age, we might say he experiences the love awakening. He comes to the poignant realization, ‘God created me to meet a woman.’ The same thing happens to a girl: ‘I was created to meet a man.’ However, where are you supposed to meet each other? Only along the central line. That central vertical line is actually the line of eternal life. Only God’s True Love makes your life eternal. Therefore, unless you meet one another at that GTL line, you cannot enjoy eternal love and life.</p>
|
||
<p>We might represent human life along a horizontal line. You are born at the end point of the line and move toward the center as you grow up. God is moving down along the vertical line, seeking to make His rendezvous of love with you. When a man and woman have both grown enough to come to the central point and they meet one another there, God is also coming right down to that point. There is the meeting between man, woman, and God. God is the center of the love relationship. Eventually, God is the core, like the bone, and Adam and Eve encircle Him, like the flesh. In that relationship, there is no power that could ever intervene. That is when man and woman truly become the temple of God. In this relationship, everyone is fulfilled. Eve finds her love fulfilled and so does Adam, and so does God. The center of all of them is GTL-God’s True Love.</p>

<p>Now we move on to other questions: what kind of creativity does God have? The center of the Unification Church teaching is that of True Parents, so who and what are they? These are questions that need to be answered.</p>
|
||
<p>God represents your vertical parents. In other words, God is the vertical true love parents. Where exactly is God? This is the great agony for all of fallen mankind: where can we find God? Our greatest point of need is to find our central point of vertical true love. What about the True Parents? They are the central point of horizontal true love. If there had been no fall, every man and woman would</p>
|
||
<p>have been perfected in true love. Everywhere they went in the universe, both in the physical world and spirit world, they would have been welcomed and would have fit perfectly with their 90 degree love.</p>
|
||
<p>Everything in creation is made in the pair system-from man and woman, to male and female flowers, to plus and minus relationships in the mineral kingdom. Therefore, God’s vertical love is expressed throughout the creation. Every aspect of creation has to follow that law and parallel the vertical line; otherwise, it cannot exist. The entire creation is like a reference manual for man and woman. Everything exists for the purpose of supporting the true love between man and woman.</p>
|
||
<p>In a way we can call the creation a museum of true love. It teaches men and women God’s True Love Principle. Watching the birds, or observing the bees flying from flower to flower, seeing male and female creatures relating-all of this is the world of God’s love in action. When you see all this, you can realize that God is trying to teach us something important. You can be proud because human beings are the only part of creation that is aware of God and connected to Him as well throughout eternity.</p>

<p>Everything follows the true love way, but the rest of creation doesn’t have eternal love. Only man has that ideal, vertical, forever love. Looking at the creatures, man can think, ‘You are only here for a short time, but man is God’s partner, so we can enjoy love forever and ever. How wonderful!’</p>
|
||
<p>When you have this attitude toward nature, everything is lovable. You want to touch the grasses, hold the flowers, stroke the trees and the birds because they are all part of the creation of God and are practicing God’s true love in their own temporal way. The center of true love in the universe. Is man and woman because only man and woman can go on with true love for eternity. That is why we have dominion over the creation with true love. You can communicate with anything and everything through true love. There is nothing you cannot understand and appreciate.</p>

||
<p>God is the King of wisdom. When He created, He made all things capable of communicating with each other, particularly with man. So God could sit and look at His beautiful world, the singing birds and the roaming animals, the blossoming flowers and fragrant plants, and He could rejoice: ‘Hurrah! All of them are the expression of my true love centered upon my true object, man and woman.’ That is how God really wants to enjoy His creation. Do you understand?</p>

<p>Therefore, the truth is that having True Parents on the earth is the hope of mankind. God is invisible, but God’s love can be everywhere when True Parents can come to the earth. They are like the body of God through which the true love for the universe can be disseminated.</p>
|

<p>I am just getting warmed up and we haven’t even touched our topic yet!</p>

||
<p>In order for you to be a recipient of both vertical and horizontal true love, God has given you a mind and a body. Vertical unity with God comes about through your mind, and with your body you can achieve horizontal unity with true love. When you say you are the ideal self, that means you are a container capable of receiving the vertical true love from the vertical True Parents-God-and the horizontal true love from the True Parents on earth.</p>
|
||
<p>What is God’s position? Who are the True Parents? The simplest way to understand it is to say that God is like your mind and True Parents are like your body. God has given you both True Parents-the spiritual True Parents and the physical True Parents. You were born into these two worlds and are the result of these two loves. When you practice true love by giving and living true love, then God is with you. You become God’s temple. God absolutely stays with you.</p>
|
||
<p>You cannot leave God or True Parents. You need both. You must attend God as the vertical True Parents; you must attend True Parents as the horizontal True Parents. Amen! Both are combined with one forever. We can never separate mind and body. Only through God and True Parents can we talk about eternal life.</p>
|
||
<p>So which is first, love or life? Love comes before life-our life was conceived and created as the fruit of our parents’ love. That means we also participated in the parents’ love. Do you know what I mean? We were meant to participate in the original true love. Our original ancestors-Adam and Eve-were supposed to have originated true love on the horizontal level. We could stand at the center point of vertical love and horizontal love, connected with the beginning point through love. Thus we would participate in the original vertical love of the parents.</p>
|
||
<p>You simply cannot deny your father or your mother. By the same token you cannot deny your God. You wouldn’t be here today without God, your father or your mother. The truth is that if the human fall had not occurred, your physical parents would have been your True Parents as well. You cannot be separated from your parents because they are your starting point. Your life is a joint venture between three parties: your father, your mother and yourself.</p>
|
||
<p>If the fall of man had not happened, our life cycle would begin with love and end with love. Your life began with the love act of your father and mother. You dwelt within your mother’s womb for nine months, receiving nourishment and love from her. Then you were born and began to grow up through the love and guidance of both your father and your mother. As you grow in love centered upon God, you are supposed to become an embodiment of true love. You can go on to give birth to your own children and then the same process will be repeated, with you in the parent’s position. Again, God is the center. You were conceived in love, you will end your life in love, and love continues for eternity.</p>

||
<p>The family system is the most important institution of God’s true love school. In the family you go through your life pattern, experiencing love and obtaining eternal life. So the True Parents are teaching you about the truth. Is the American secular way of life today, including the perverted ‘gay love,’ parallel with that teaching? No. Furthermore, when their parents grow old, many Americans simply send them into an institution, like a human zoo, where they can wait for death. Can that be the right way?</p>

||
<p>Who is the oldest person in the universe? It is God! God is your vertical parent. Can you send God into a senior citizens’ home? What about the True Parents? No, you have to serve and attend your parents as training to serve your eternal, vertical parent, who is God. With that proper kind of training, you can go to the spiritual world and easily inhale the atmosphere there, which is love.</p>

<p>For many American men, practicality and pragmatism are the only considerations. Many men think, what a burden women and children are. I don’t need that. All I need is a small apartment and a simple life. I don’t want to be bothered with a family.’ But that sort of ‘pragmatism’ stops a person from growing, from learning how to breathe spiritually. You’ve got to breathe the air of love when you go to spirit world, so when you stop the development of your love in the physical world, you stop living.</p>

||
<p>The way of true love centers on others. The family situation provides a person with the environment to learn how to love others. On all sides- front and back, up and down, side to side-the relationships within the family teach you how to love all the different kinds of people.</p>
|
||
<p>The family is truly the building block of the Kingdom of Heaven. When your family is strong, you are able to love the nation, world, universe and God almighty.</p>
|
||
<p>Think about your own family. What is the degree of your crossing point between vertical and horizontal love? Some may have a 50 degree angle, some 19 degrees! That’s a big problem! That is why you have the Principle to learn how to be set free. The truth shall set you free.</p>

||
<p>God gave the truth to the world through the Messiah, the representative of God on earth. So we might say that God’s image, His personification, is within the Messiah.</p>
|
||
<p>The fallen world lost God’s image and therefore restoration became necessary. The fallen world is full of enemy relationships on every level Adam and Eve fell into an enemy relationship; Cain and Abel were supposed to be loving brothers but became enemies instead. That enemy relationship was the seed for the rest of the human race. Therefore, at the end of world history, the same enemy relationships will be seen on the world wide level.</p>
|
||
<p>Among the nations, there is an Adam nation, an Eve nation, a Cain and an Abel nation. Since these enemy relationships came about through illicit love, an illicit love situation on the world level shall also appear. What is occurring all over the world? Men and women are becoming enemies, instead of loving partners. Husband and wife, brothers and sisters, mothers and sons, fathers and daughters, parents and children-all are becoming enemy relationships.</p>
|
||
<p>This is particularly true in the American family today. Where can we find a true father, mother, brother or sister in the American home? People are living with stepparents, stepbrothers and sisters, half-siblings and all sorts of strange relationships. Satan is trying to divide and conquer the world with the same seed of illicit love. Does the American government have the power to solve this social dilemma? What about the military? No one seems to know what to do about the American family breakdown.</p>
|
||
<p>Many people have followed the so-called sexual liberation movement, believing that everything should just be free and easy. All kinds of tragic things are happening because of that attitude. Love was supposed to be the point of the creation of eternal life, but once love became corrupted, it began leading man toward corruption and death.</p>
|
||
<p>Everywhere we look we see despair in the world today. What shall we do about it? We have two options: either we just give up on the world and let them go to hell, or we work to restore everyone to life and hope. There is really only one option: we must restore the world.</p>
|
||
<p>Suppose you were not a member of the Unification Church but were listening to my words as an objective American. Would you agree with what I am saying? Anyone would recognize the truth of this.</p>
|
||
<p>It is bad enough that America is going down so badly, but also the rest of the world is following its lead. The entire world is declining because of immorality. What is the satanic weapon to destroy this world? It is none other than illicit love, although the people of the world don’t know that.</p>
|
||
<p>Look at the phenomenon of AIDS. That disease is telling the world something very important. God is giving us a warning through that terrible disease. True love goes in only one direction: toward goodness, toward others. Satan tries to make fallen, selfish love look bright and attractive so that people will follow that. American people think, ‘Oh, we are going the way of love.’ But now that AIDS has come along, people can see where fallen love will take them. God has proclaimed to them, ‘You continue your destructive ways and then who will protect you?’ Even God doesn’t know that answer.</p>
|
||
<p>Our mission is to become strong and march forward to reach out to all of humanity. We cannot take rest. Every person is our brother or sister. So the Unification Church members have the biggest mission. Our job today is to create out of this divided, chaotic, fallen world a true Adam country, true Eve, Cain, and Abel country. That is the Unification Church mission. Instead of being separated and enemies, the nations should be united as friendly brother and sister countries.</p>
|
||
<p>What is the prescription for healing this world? It is true love. Since Adam and Eve separated and became enemies through illicit love, the Adam nation and Eve nation should be united through true, unselfish love in the process of restoration. In order to create the truly united Adam nation and Eve nation, you have to plunge into this chaotic, sinful world. You must win the battle there and then go back to create the Adam nation and Eve nation.</p>
|
||
<p>That is precisely what the Providence is all about. That is why I came here to America in the first place. I was certainly not well-received here. The United States has been the enemy nation to me but I came here and have stayed here for this long time. Why? It doesn’t matter whether America loves me or not. I came here to restore this country, no matter what. To do that, I brought along the ‘contingency troops’-individuals from the Adam nation, the Eve nation, the Abel nation and the Cain nation. All together we came to bring about the showdown, the confrontation here in the United States.</p>
|
||
<p>The United States has been the enemy to all those other nations. By coming here and loving the people more than their own countrymen, those individuals are practicing the standard of true love. Otherwise, they would not be able to return to their own nation and re-create it.</p>
|
||
<p>Japan and America were the bitterest of enemies during World War II. Many Americans, including Dr. Durst, felt it was virtually impossible to deal with the Japanese. Likewise the Koreans-their culture is so different! The differences are still there even now, after they have been in America for so many years. By the same token, I brought German people to work here in America. I knew that Germans didn’t like Americans and vice versa, mainly because of the World War II experience. But now individuals from those enemy nations are becoming brothers and sisters, loving each other truly. The United States is like a small world, a microcosm. That is why this nation must be the battleground and why we must win the victory here first. Otherwise, I cannot go back to establish the true Adam nation.</p>
|
||
<p>Satan is cunning and clever. He knows he is evil, that he is the Devil. Yet he is protesting to God, ‘I was originally Your archangel. Your son, Adam, was supposed to love me, so You and Your true children, Adam and Eve, have to love me now to get into Heaven. That is the original way of Principle.’ So Satan uses Divine Principle to accuse Adam I know that very well. Thus I came to America to love the enemy country. In order to enter Heaven, you must have the power and capacity to love even Satan.</p>
|
||
<p>Jesus was well aware of this particular truth. That is why he could say of the Roman soldiers who pierced his side as he hung on the cross, ‘Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.’</p>
|
||
<p>I know well how important it was for me to love this enemy nation of America. If I am truly the son of God, representing Him in the True Parents’ position, then I must love the enemy in order to open the gates of Heaven. I came to the United States to love this nation. That is the precise reason I returned here after the indictment was made. I did not have to return from Korea, since Korea and the U.S. do not have an extradition treaty, so I had no legal reason to do so. All the lawyers were telling me, ‘No, Reverend Moon, don’t come back.’ But I packed up my bags and came back the next day.</p>
|
||
<p>Why did I do that? It is because my mission is to save America, not to be comfortable here. In a way, I welcomed going to Danbury prison because that is where the worst sort of Americans are assembled-criminals. I knew that if I could love them- the worst of the enemy people-then I was truly loving my enemy.</p>
|
||
<p>Satan had claimed control of this nation; it was truly his principality. But I climbed up on top of Satan and declared, ‘Get out of my way! I am going to love America and you cannot stop me. I will open the gates of Heaven here.’ Once I fulfilled the standard of loving this nation in such a way, I could go back home to Korea. Satan could not follow me there.</p>
|
||
<p>Everyone who has followed my path has been accused and persecuted. The Japanese who came over here were certainly not welcomed. The Europeans, likewise, were not welcomed. Even you Americans who became my followers were rejected by your own people. But because all those people united with the True Parents and purely and sacrificially devoted their lives to loving the United States, they were victorious. After making the condition for that victory, where must they go?</p>
|
||
<p>The Adam and Eve countries used to be enemies, but God’s power is grafting them into one. In that way, there is salvation for the Cain and Abel countries. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve fell and through them the fallen nations arose. Now God must bring together not individual Adam and Eve but the nations representing them and unite them in true love, thereby restoring the fallen act of Adam and Eve in the Garden. When that happens, it is a condition for the restoration of the world. I did not come just for the restoration of the Adam and Eve nation but for the sake of the world.</p>
|
||
<p>The Korean peninsula was divided by the 38th parallel. North Korea represents the satanic kingdom, under Kim Il Sung. On June 25, 1950, they launched their attack against the South, trying to take over the entire peninsula for communism. The whole country was ravaged. However, with God’s help, South Korea was not destroyed and freedom was restored. What happened afterward? Two extreme poles came to exist-north and south. One is satanic and communist, and the other is democratic and freedom-centered. Thirty-eight years after the war, South Korea became the host of the Olympic games. On September 16, 1988, 160 nations came together, including virtually the entire communist world.</p>
|
||
<p>Sixteen free nations participated to save Korea’s freedom during the Korean War but, at that time, they failed to unite the country. During the Seoul Olympics, 160 nations came together in harmony. 16 nations represented the national level, while 160 represented the world level. The 16 nations failed on a national level, but the 160 nations succeeded on the worldwide level. Both the free world and the communist world-the two polar extremes-came together in unity in South Korea.</p>
|
||
<p>It was historic that the second generation of the communist world and of the free world came to Korea. During the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt, 600,000 of the first generation followed Moses through the wilderness. One by one, they all perished. Only the second generation was able to go in to the Promised Land. All the elder sons of the Egyptians were killed by the plague, while the second generation on the side of God was saved.</p>
|
||
<p>The nations of the world have their own embassies in Korea, and they were taking care of their countries’ athletes. From the heavenly perspective, those athletes represented Abel, while the embassies and governments represented Cain. On the part of Korea, the True Parents were in the Abel position and the government, represented by President Roh, was in the Cain position. So Cain and Abel on both levels needed to find unity.</p>
|
||
<p>I invited all our missionaries from the 120 nations to Korea so that they could serve their embassy and their athletes. Those three parties would be united under the True Parents’ auspices.</p>
|
||
<p>What happened? The model course of Jacob occurred this time at the Olympics in Korea. Jacob worked desperately hard for 21 years and amassed a great fortune: then when he returned to his home, he gave it all to Esau, his elder brother. That is how he won his heart. By the same token, in the position of Jacob, I gave everything gained in the United States to my Esau. That actually happened, both symbolically and in reality, on the worldwide level.</p>
|
||
<p>First of all, when the 160 nations’ athletes had come to Korea, they were given all the McCol they could drink. At first, they were rather reluctant, saying, ‘We don’t need the Unification Church’s soft drink.’ But once they tasted it, they said, ‘Oh, please, may we have two or three truckloads brought to our embassy?’ The ambassadors were pleading with our people, ‘You must give us more so we can serve our athletes!’ Not only that, they were also giving it to their staffs and families at the embassies.</p>
|
||
<p>Our missionaries worked hard to cheer on and support the athletes. Sometimes the athletes felt lonely; during the games, no one from their embassy was actively cheering for them and supporting them. But then suddenly they would see someone waving a huge flag from their home country. Brazil, Argentina, Zambia, Zaire-the champions from those countries and others were wondering, ‘Who are those people up there waving my flag?’ Then they found out they were Reverend Moon’s people. Some African and Latin American countries did not win even one bronze medal, and there was no one to cheer them up. But thanks to Unification Church people, they could feel appreciated. They automatically felt united with those missionaries.</p>
|
||
<p>What does all this mean? The Unification Church missionaries united with their own countries’ champions and also with their embassies. In this way, the True Parents and all those parties were also united.</p>
|
||
<p>I particularly wanted to concentrate on the athletes from communist countries. Those athletes were writing letters and telegrams home saying, ‘There were some large cheering teams here from the Unification Church!’ The communist contingent was shocked.</p>
|
||
<p>This was just the first stage. We also held a great program at the Little Angels School. We invited all the athletes, their coaches, and embassy officials to a performance of the Universal Ballet Company, the New York City Symphony, and the Little Angels. All who attended were completely melted by the performance, particularly of the Little Angels. Furthermore, every guest was presented with a special gift: beautiful material for suits and dresses, and also scarves and neckties. Some of the athletes had never seen such a fine necktie in their life.</p>
|
||
<p>Among the Soviet delegation in the audience were many KGB agents. Right now, those KGB agents are wearing suits made from material given to them by Reverend Moon! They sent word to their superiors and their government, ‘The city of Seoul is full of Reverend Moon’s people and they are giving out beautiful gifts.’ Every country’s government learned through their embassy the same thing: ‘It is amazing! The Unification Church people are the only ones who are really taking care of us.’ Unity and harmony were created in this way.</p>
|
||
<p>In the audience during the Little Angels’ performance were coaches and medal winners from Russia, the United States, China, Portugal, Poland, Hungary, and so on, sitting side by side. Later on, they were all invited up to the stage where everyone joined hands and sang, ‘We Are the World.’ While they were on the stage, the Little Angels presented each nation’s coaches and medal winners with a specially-designed Little Angels medal. The recipients were saying, ‘This is better than an Olympic medal!’</p>
|
||
<p>Can you imagine such unity and harmony between representatives of 160 nations? This is a new launching pad for world peace. In the position of the universal Jacob, I was able to give gifts to those in the Esau position. Even though my own church members were thinking, ‘Father is giving too much away,’ I unselfishly opened my heart to the communist champions.</p>
|
||
<p>I made a very incredible proposal to the Soviet delegation: ‘We will give you a gift of 2,000 cars to take home. But there is one condition-you have to drive these cars through North Korea and Manchuria to get them home!’ They were practically salivating, wanting those cars so badly. But they could not convince Kim Il Sung to let them drive across North Korea with 2,000 brand new automobiles from Reverend Moon. Therefore, they asked if they could take them home by boat, but I told them no. Perhaps someday when Kim Il Sung changes, they might come back to claim their automobiles!</p>
|
||
<p>The 24th Olympics in Seoul was a heavenly celebration. It was actually a celebration of the 6,000 years of God’s providence. Who was the center of this celebration? It was the True Parents. The new age has been ushered in. The indemnity is established for unity between the Adam nation, Eve nation, Cain and Abel nations. It is the new foundation for eternal world peace. The tactics of Satan are always to divide and conquer. Every level of relationship-from individuals and on to nations- has been one of division and enmity. But now for the first time we have paid the indemnity and restored the enemy relationships into harmony and brotherhood.</p>
|
||
<p>There will not be another Olympics held in Korea for a long time. The incredible dispensational will of God was for this event to take place in 1988, with the True Parents at the center in their own nation.</p>
|
||
<p>During my stay in Korea, there were three major providential accomplishments. First of all, I held a ceremony signifying the time of transformation into providential unity. Cain and Abel have always fought throughout history, but now that has been restored in this transformation. The chain of command has been restored. Another transformation which took place is that the Unification Church and True Parents have now moved from the suffering period to the commanding period. We are no longer going to just suffer. We are going to be in command of the situation and transform the world into goodness.</p>
|
||
<p>The second major accomplishment was the ceremony on October 3, 1988. On that day, the Korean nation celebrated the foundation of its nation 4,321 years ago. On October third, we declared Foundation Day for the Nation of the World of Unification. This is not a secular nation but the heavenly, unified nation of the world. This means that spirit world and physical world are one. At this morning’s Pledge Service, my prayer was dedicated to this. The restoration of each nation has become possible. Beyond communities and societies, nations can now be restored into the one heavenly world community.</p>
|
||
<p>The third event which took place was the Blessing of 6,516 couples on October 30, 1988. The most amazing characteristic of that Blessing was the international matching between Koreans and Japanese. Korea and Japan were enemy nations for a very long time, and the emotional wounds have never been healed. By this mixing up, the two countries can become one. The emotional strains and hurts are being removed.</p>
|
||
<p>This Blessing was a huge event. The entire nation of Korea was watching. Likewise, the Japanese government couldn’t believe what was happening. By the time they figured it out, it was all over. Koreans and Japanese were matched in 99.9 percent of the couples. They could not speak to one another, for the most part; they could just use sign language. The only way for them to stay together in the crowd was to hold hands. In fallen history there was never such an event. Only in God’s history could such a thing be possible. Another amazing point is that everyone joyfully and faithfully accepted their match-100 percent. That was a great miracle and victory in Korea.</p>
|
||
<p>The fall of man brought individual separation and enmity and ultimately enemy nations. This Blessing brought two enemy nations together into one through the couples. They are going beyond their own countries. No longer do they even think of themselves as part of Korea or Japan. The Heavenly Kingdom is the only nation they belong to. Satan has no more business with them. They have a higher foundation of true love, and since Satan can never follow the true love way, he has to say good-bye!</p>
|
||
<p>Today is an extraordinary Children’s Day. During this year of 1988, we made tremendous providential accomplishments in Korea. I wanted to come back to America to celebrate Children’s Day with you.</p>
|
||
<p>One of the most special aspects of the Olympics this year was its theme song, ‘Hand in Hand,’ signifying breaking down the walls between races, nations, and cultures. We are going to make that song a reality together, you and I. Mansei!</p>
|
||
<p>Let’s start something new: in the past you have clapped your hands together horizontally. Now you can clap up and down, vertically, when you are applauding vertical love. This is just the beginning. Let us pray.</p>
|

<p>One final message I want to give you: Everything centered upon true love will be prosperous and victorious. That includes husbands and wives, nations, communities, and the world. It includes your own mission as well. You must remember this. It is the rule and way of life of the Unification Church. Amen!</p>

<p>I have just returned to America after sixty-seven days in Korea.</p>
|
||
<p>As you know, the dispensation of God involves the entire universe, but the ideal of creation is centered upon men and women. What should men and women be centered upon? God created man and women not for their own sake, but rather for the sake of true love. Therefore, true love is the central purpose of God’s creation. Each individual man and woman search after true love. Together, they must also search for and obtain true love. That is the goal for which they were created. Then, God and human beings should be united centered upon true love. That is the beginning point of the ideal of God.</p>
|
||
<p>We must clearly understand that the purpose of creation is to fulfill the ideal of true love. How can that be done? It is by accomplishing the four position foundation centered upon God. You must see it very clearly. This is the point at which God’s ideal and true love must be fulfilled.</p>
|
||
<p>Because Adam and Eve failed to fulfill God’s ideal of true love, they did not accomplish the four position foundation centered upon God. All of the problems and calamities that have befallen humanity are directly attributable to this one failure of the first human beings. Everything went wrong because God’s original purpose of creation was not realized.</p>
|
||
<p>God created Adam and Eve for the purpose of the fulfillment of true love. Then Adam and Eve were meant to consummate that true love by giving birth to children of God. We can draw a familiar diagram representing the four-position foundation, with the top circle representing God, the two middle circles representing Adam and Eve, and the bottom circle representing children. Adam and Eve each have to achieve unity between their mind and body, becoming a wholesome man and woman of completion. Then they must be united at the central point of love. This is very important. Otherwise, the vertical line coming down from God could not connect with them and their four position foundation could not be perfected.</p>
|
||
<p>The most essential point we must clarify and understand this morning is centered upon this question: Why did God make all things? It was not for the sake of the creation itself, but rather for the sake of the fulfillment of true love. This is our most fundamental understanding.</p>
|
||
<p>Adam’s mind is at the center, surrounded by his body. Eve’s mind, too, is at the center, surrounded</p>
|
||
<p>by her body. All these elements Adam’s mind and body, Eve’s mind and body-are meant to resound with the same vibration. They share the same wavelength and resonate together.</p>
|
||
<p>We experience this particular phenomenon when we are growing up. As teenagers, we develop our capacity for affection and love for the opposite sex. The mind seeks to communicate itself before the body. Our minds meet on a certain wave length or vibration. Therefore, the mind of a young person must be connected to true love in order to form correct, normal relationships.</p>
|
||
<p>Nobody gets married thinking, “We will only live together for ten years or so.” People marry pledging their love: “Until death do us part.” That eternal standard arises from God’s formula. Each individual is supposed to achieve unity between mind and body, and then become united as a couple. What is the rallying point of that unity? It is true love.</p>
|
||
<p>When Adam and Eve achieve that unity of true love as a couple, then the overall plus is God and they are in the minus position. That is the point of fulfillment of God’s ideal This is the basic, fundamental formula of the Divine Principle which you must understand. It is the bedrock foundation.</p>
|
||
<p>True love follows the three stages of growth to perfection. The unity between mind and body, plus and minus, represents the formation stage; the unity between Adam and Eve represents the growth stage; and the unity between man and God represents completion. “True love” is a vague concept which is difficult to understand, so I am trying to explain it in basic terms, showing you how it develops.</p>
|
||
<p>Our Unification Church congregation is composed of both men and women. The first question each person here should ask is whether your mind and body are becoming united centered on eternal true love. Those who can say, “I am confident that my mind and body are united centered on true love,” raise your hand, please.</p>
|
||
<p>The fundamental base for all levels of unity is true love. Each person has a “homing device. moving his body toward true love. That is his original mind. This is why we can have hope for fallen man to be restored. Without this human trait, there would be no possibility for restoration.</p>
|
||
<p>The Principle of Creation tells us that whoever embodies true love becomes the center of the universe. Everything follows such a person because everything in the universe wants to be near true love. Adam and Eve were placed in the Garden of Eden. If they had achieved the perfection of their true love, everything in the Garden would have been naturally controlled and dominated by them. They would have automatically become the central figures of their surroundings because they would have become the personification of true love.</p>
|
||
<p>Man and woman were meant to come together by the pulling power of true love. Then they would automatically attract God’s presence. Great effort to achieve unity between God and man was not supposed to be necessary. Once man and women personify true love, God’s love flows to them as effortlessly as if by magnetism.</p>
|
||
<p>Adam and Eve were created as the son and daughter of God. Once they are perfected in true love, God doesn’t even have to look for some way to get close to them. He simply goes there automatically, pulled by true love. Around man’s united realm of true love, all things of creation are attracted and united. Furthermore, the entire spirit realm is also attracted and affected by such a loving man and woman. Therefore, when you become a perfected couple of true love, you will be welcomed and embraced anywhere you approach Every door will be thrown wide open to usher you in.</p>
|
||
<p>You need to clarify your understanding of the Divine Principle and organize it around this one point because this is the bedrock foundation of everything else in the Principle.</p>
|
||
<p>We can ask, why should we achieve true love? What shall we do, once we achieve it? Where do we go from there? There are three major purposes of true love: 1. When you possess true love, you are automatically entitled to receive the inheritance;</p>
|
||
<p>2. True love gives you the right of participation. You are not an observer or bystander but an agent which initiates action; 3. Thirdly, true love brings you to the same level of heart with God.</p>
|
||
<p>The power of love can do these three most desirable things.</p>
|
||
<p>Let’s use an example. The President of the United States is the most prestigious office in the land. Let’s imagine that the current President was married to a homely, uneducated woman. Regardless of this, the President’s wife enjoys the same level of prestige as her husband. Their love relationship elevates her instantly to the position of First Lady. Wherever the President may go- perhaps to a Summit Conference, where he stands in a receiving line and greets other world leaders- his wife also goes. So she enjoys participation on the same level. Furthermore, she automatically receives whatever inheritance her husband may receive. Whatever belongs to the President also belongs to the First Lady.</p>
|
||
<p>If this principle of love works in the fallen world, how much more must it apply in the perfected, unfallen world? The purpose of God’s work is for restoration. What power can achieve the restoration of fallen men and women all the way to the level of perfection? It is none other than true love-certainly not knowledge, wealth, or worldly power.</p>
|
||
<p>We might go one step further. Once the love relationship is formed between a man and woman, say the President and his wife, then he also follows her and receives whatever is her inheritance, experiencing the same kinds of things. So this rule applies both ways. The Principle of Creation states that God created all things not just for Adam or just Eve, but for both. Both belong to God and come under God’s domain. Therefore, neither men nor women can claim sole dominion over the universe. Only both together can make that claim.</p>
|
||
<p>In the realm of true love, you can even climb on top of God’s shoulders and say to the world, “Look at me I’m even higher than Heavenly Father!” God would not resent that but would welcome and enjoy such intimacy. This is all because of the power of love. First of all, you need to have that ambition: to climb the ladder all the way up to the top of the head of God. Do you have such an ambition? Every person is born with ambition, wanting to be number one, to climb higher than his dad and mom. God embedded this ambition in our hearts. Therefore, ambition is not necessarily evil but must be used for the purpose of attaining God’s true love.</p>

<p>If Adam and Eve had attained true love and were lying together in bed, would God observe two happy faces or sad, desperate faces? Every part of Adam and Eve would be filled with the joy of love. Therefore, every expression represents joy and happiness. Have you women thought, “I am the happiest woman in the world because I am lying next to my husband in the f fulfillment of true love.. Do you men feel the same way when you lie beside your wife? If husband and wife are so fulfilled and joyful in love, do you think God will want to be somewhere else, or right there with you?</p>
|
||
<p>Think of how it would be if everyone were bound by true love. You could not get away from it.</p>
|
||
<p>If human history had started from that point, can you imagine how it might have been? Wherever woman went, her husband would want to follow and she would be happy to have him. The reverse is true where the man went, his wife would want to go, too. Wherever they went together, God would also go.</p>
|
||
<p>This is a simplified version, but it is the most fundamental point of my teaching. So please have open arms-try to embrace true love wherever you go. When you grab and squeeze true love, don’t let go; just make it stay with you. Once you are united in true love, no foreign elements can invade. They have no power or influence over you.</p>
|
||
<p>A simple illustration is contained in the law of physics: Plus and plus tend to repel each other. But does plus always repel another plus? Not necessarily. A powerful thunderstorm with its lightning and thunder is the result of millions of volts of electricity coming together. All this voltage didn’t just spring up instantly but took a while to develop. First of all, plus charges had to accumulate in massive amounts to encounter an equally massive minus charge. So plus came together with plus and minus with minus first. In this way, they grew. But once the plus charge meets a minus charge, it will powerfully repel another plus charge. Once they achieve a certain level, they are capable of creating the clashes we see in the heavens when we witness a thunderstorm.</p>

<p>If plus always repelled plus and minus always repelled minus, then teenaged boys couldn’t be friends, and girls would not like each other. But that is not the case. Once a boy and girl get married, however, their relationship with their former friends is changed. They don’t want to be as close to their friends. At this point, plus repels plus, and minus repels minus. So the law of attraction and repulsion is not created by God for the purpose of destruction, but rather for the protection of the right order of relationship in the universe.</p>

<p>When you are united centered upon true love, your union will be preserved and protected by the entire universe for eternity. Therefore, there i9 no power capable of destroying a perfected true love relationship. Once we are united in true love with the eternal God, what greater power can intervene? Nothing can stop us from living and loving with God for eternity.</p>
|
||
<p>Do you want to enjoy eternal life? So far, the idea has been somewhat vague in your mind, I know. You haven’t been able to feel the reality of it. But by seeing this point, you can see that eternal life IS an inevitable consequence of true love. Only true love makes things eternal. Everything else will perish. That is the law of God’s universe.</p>

<p>This IS an incredible discovery in the history of mankind. Without an understanding of true love, history has been a record of immorality, disorder and confusion. But now Reverend Moon has come and declared to the world this clear-cut law, and true love is becoming a reality for the first time. This particular gathering today with the True parent is based upon the reality of true love.</p>

<p>When this teaching is presented to our forefathers in spirit world, they will all say, “Yes, this is true.. Every person in spirit world will agree. If people a million years from now talk about this concept, they too will agree with it: “Yes, that is the universal, unchanging law which Reverend Moon taught.” Therefore, this understanding which has been imparted to you at this time in history is the most wonderful thing which could have happened.</p>
|
||
<p>Plus and minus united vertically and horizontally can maintain that relationship for eternity. That is the law and the truth. The vertical plus and minus relationship is exemplified in the father/son relationship. The horizontal plus and minus relationship is exemplified between men and women. The vertical line cannot be defined without the horizontal line, and vice-versa. They are both necessary.</p>
|
||
<p>When an architect begins to make his drawings, he must make the vertical and horizontal lines first. These crucial lines are the points of reference for everything that he builds. If the architect draws the central point in one location but the builders come along and erect the house at another point, then that house will have to be moved to agree with the architect’s drawings. Once the vertical line meets with the horizontal, that meeting point becomes the center. All the planning and construction should be designed around that center.</p>

<p>There is vertical true love and also horizontal true love. Are they independent of each other, going in separate directions? No, that is not the ideal, yet that is the way American love is. The American way of life is diverse in every respect, including the area of love. People engage in free sex, taking one lover one night and then someone else the next night. They wander around thinking, “Whatever I do, that is correct.” They try to make themselves the vertical line. American democracy is an example of a relationship along the horizontal line alone. It doesn’t have a true vertical line coming down from God. Because of that lack, it shall fail without doubt. When you hear that, do you feel happy or sad? Do you think I am tricking you with words? No, this is true. No true vertical love exists in this nation. What about horizontal true love? How can that exist?</p>

<p>You must understand what hell is. Hell is the place where vertical true love and horizontal true love cannot be found anywhere. There is no trace of it. There is no order or discipline, and everyone bumps and clashes against each other. Cruelty and violence rule. Do you understand this? You don’t want to go to that place, do you? The most hellish place on earth is where no trace of vertical and horizontal true love can be found.</p>
|
||
<p>In the end, people who misuse their love curse themselves. Women say, “Why was I ever born? I despise the fact that I am a woman.” The same is true of men. People in hell hate their bodily parts by which they engaged in illicit love. They condemn their own bodies throughout eternity. Our sexual organs were meant to be used for the consummation of true love, so when they are misused in illicit love, they become the object of hate and detestation. Once the sexual areas of a person’s body are misused, including a woman’s bosom and hips, they become objects of eternal condemnation in the spirit world.</p>
|
||
<p>When I was in prison in Korea, I observed men who were awaiting execution. Every day they grieved and repented, hanging their heads, saying, “If I had taken that one step differently and gone the other direction, I would not be in this position. One misstep brought me to this end.” They could not get away because the deed was done. This is a good analogy with the misuse of true love. Once true love is misused, a person will face eternal condemnation and he will live with eternal grief.</p>

<p>Let us return to our topic today, which is America. This nation is prospering now with its democratic system I am not saying that democracy itself is evil not at all, but that horizontal democracy must cross the vertical line of God’s true love. Without that meeting point, America will perish. The question is, which comes first, vertical or horizontal true love? Yes, it is vertical true love. Why is that?</p>
|
||
<p>The universe is built upon only one axis. When you draw a circle, only one vertical line can penetrate the center. When you look at the entire creation plus almighty God, what would be the vertical line which penetrates the center of the universe? That one vertical line must be power, right? No, power is always a manifestation of the horizontal line. It is the result of horizontal confrontation. Then there are knowledge and wealth, which are also horizontal</p>
|
||
<p>Love is the only thing which is universal and vertical. Do the lines of vertical true love and horizontal true love cross, or are they independent of each other, going their own ways? If they are separated, there is no ideal because there is no harmony or unity. Can harmony and unity arise any place according to any sort of center, or must there be an absolute vertical center for them to arise? Do you want to enjoy temporary harmony or eternal harmony? You want eternal.</p>
|
||
<p>How can the vertical and horizontal be harmonized? Fifty-five billion people can each draw a horizontal line intersecting the vertical Line, but they must be true and perfectly horizontal Perhaps you say, “I can cross the vertical line anyway I like. I’m doing fine,” but that is not true. Even worse is when the vertical line is not truly vertical. When the horizontal lines cross it, that is far from perfect.</p>
|
||
<p>Where are you in relation to the perfect vertical and horizontal lines? How can you find the original vertical axis and the original horizontal axis and combine them into one? This is fallen humanity’s problem. You have to find those two lines in your lifetime. If you don’t, you will not be able to go to heaven. You know where you are, without anyone else telling you. Every one of you is responsible for finding the true vertical and true horizontal line.</p>
|
||
<p>By combining the vertical and horizontal true loves, God wants to form a rounded, global entity. A three dimensional globe has one vertical axis. Two horizontal lines can intersect at the axis, so there would be three lines coming together at that point. When the love power comes through the vertical axis, it can travel down through the horizontal lines and move out everywhere. There will be no loss of energy, no contradiction.</p>
|
||
<p>Say love with the power of “10” comes down along the vertical line. There must be a path it can take which will allow it to be perpetuated. Ten divides itself into two parts of five along the two horizontal lines, then when they come together, there is still ten. As long as the power is flowing through the center point, there is no resistance</p>
|
||
<p>and therefore no loss of power. In the physical world, the input of energy does not equal the output; there is always some loss. But we have to find a formula by which there will be no loss of energy. The only way is by going through the central axis.</p>
|
||
<p>The harmonizing point is the center. Any action not going through the center will always encounter resistance and contradiction; but anything going through the center will find harmony and perfect welcome.</p>
|
||
<p>If the horizontal line is drawn without going through the center, the result will be disorder everywhere. There can be no system or harmony. Therefore, the center is the point around which everything else is organized and harmonized. Every existence finds its place, its eternal residence.</p>
|
||
<p>The globe we are discussing represents the relationship between God and mankind. That relationship is surrounded by all the creatures, including the plants and animals. The exact same principle guides them. Even the mineral kingdom follows this rule. Imparted throughout all these levels of existence are the horizontal characteristics of masculine and feminine, positive and negative.</p>
|
||
<p>The mineral, plant and animal kingdoms all have the goal of reaching their center, which is the point of human true love. They want to be involved in that. Therefore, all things of creation are willing to sacrifice themselves if that is the way they can follow true love.</p>
|
||
<p>All creation is formed in the pair system for the purpose of the fulfillment of love. Each being yearns to reach a higher and higher level of true love. In order to do that, the stronger force of love consumes the weaker. This is how the animal and plant kingdom are willing to become sustenance for the human body. Since human true love is closer to God, all other creatures want to be part of the human body, even willing to be eaten for that purpose.</p>
|
||
<p>Among the ocean creatures, the whale is the largest and closest to the human race. They are mammals, giving birth to live babies. The smallest creatures are eaten by larger fish, which in turn are eaten by larger fish, all the way up to the whale. which takes everything into its gigantic mouth</p>
|
||
<p>Within the animal kingdom, insects and worms are consumed by little birds. Small birds are eaten by larger- creatures. When those creatures are eaten by human beings, the cells of the birds are eaten, too. In this manner, the minuscule organism on the bottom of the sea can ultimately become a part of the cells and body of a man or woman. Those creatures welcome the opportunity to become part of a human cell because they can thereby become recipients of true love. Suppose a tiny creature from the ocean bottom becomes a part of Bo Hi Pak’s flesh. It can say proudly, “Look at me. Now I’m a human cell!” When Bo Hi Pak and his wife express their love, that tiny sea organism rises to the level of participation in the act of true love.</p>
|
||
<p>This is why I go fishing and hunting. Many American members don’t understand how a religious leader could engage in such activities. Whenever I go out on the ocean, I know that the fish want to be loved by God, by way of Reverend Moon. That is the highest accomplishment of any sea creature. Likewise, the little birds and animals yearn to become part of the body of a true man. In this way, the creatures can leap over into the infinite realm of the love of God. That is their highest purpose and goal.</p>
|
||
<p>Not all the creatures will achieve that kind of glory. Only a limited number can become part of a cell in the body of Reverend Moon. Once they attain such glory, they can proclaim, “I have achieved the kings position!” The cells know that by becoming part of the body of Reverend Moon, they are participating in eternal true love. Therefore they can participate in eternal life, in a sense.</p>
|
||
<p>When you look at all the things of creation, including the trees, grasses, flowers, birds and animals, think about the fact that they yearn to come closer to the love of God by way of human beings. You must be the mediator between them and God. Yesterday when I drove in through the gates of East Garden again, I sensed all the trees, flowers and creatures reaching out to welcome me.</p>
|
||
<p>Everything comes under the same laws of creation. When your mind and body are united at this center position, there is nothing you cannot understand in the realm of God and the universe. Your mind is vertical and your body is horizontal, so they can be united in this position.</p>
|
||
<p>Why were people created with mind and body in the first place? It was in order to apply this law in the human body. The mind, representing the vertical, cannot be changed; its position can’t be altered. The body, however, has 360 degrees in which to maneuver. As long as it crosses the vertical line at the center, there is no difference in the relationship itself. Do you think the Oriental people have a different vertical axis from the West? No, there is only one vertical axis for the whole world. If you move from one place to the other, as long as your vertical line is established, you will enjoy the same harmony and unity.</p>
|
||
<p>Everything that is welcomed here on earth shall be welcomed in spirit world. The same principles and the same central axis exist in the spirit world. The key question is, how can we attain the ideal position with the axis? That is when you are dwelling in the bosom of the true love of God.</p>
|
||
<p>How would you describe or define God? Is He simply the vertical center? No, there should also be a horizontal center of God. What is that? The vertical and horizontal centers are found together. Once you grab one, you grab the other. The vertical center is almighty God; the horizontal center is the parents. This would have been absolutely true if the fall of man had not occurred. All parents would have been true parents, crossing the vertical line at a perfect ninety degree angle, with no deviation. God, the vertical center and the Creator, made Adam and Eve with the purpose of becoming the horizontal center of God, all centered upon true love. Do you understand?</p>
|
||
<p>For many people, religious teachings have been little more than pleasant concepts which have almost no bearing on their everyday life. They feel that real life and religion are separated from one another, occupying different realms. Our crucial question is: how can we join the ideal with the reality of daily life? This is a most important point.</p>
|
||
<p>Your mind represents the vertical parents, your body the horizontal parents. Because of the fall of man, the original form of man has been all but obliterated. But when a man is perfectly united between the vertical and horizontal aspects at a 90 degree angle, he encounters no resistance or disharmony anywhere he goes. Every person retains a trace of resemblance with that original form.</p>
|
||
<p>This entire universe is supposed to be filled with true love. AB a microcosm of the universe, each human being is also supposed to be filled with true love. But because of the fall of man, the universal axis is lost; man has not been able to find it. The human mind has become disfigured. Always remember that the 90 degree crossing point between the vertical and horizontal lines is a necessity.</p>
|
||
<p>When you become a microcosm of God’s ideal of creation, with your vertical and horizontal aspects perfectly united, you become a part of the total perfection of the universe. You will participate in the relationship of true love between God and man Then you shall truly become holy. This i8 why Buddha, for example, could declare when he came to his point of self-realization: “In heaven and earth, I alone am holy.” But the destination of each person is to be holy and noble and to achieve the same point of self-realization.</p>
|
||
<p>Human history has been running along the fallen path, but this will end at the day of restoration. What is that? It is, simply put, the time of the return of the Lord of the Second Advent. Christianity has been centered upon the hope that Christ’s promise will be fulfilled: that the Lord will return. And furthermore, he will not just return but will be triumphant. The Bible predicts the Marriage of the Lamb, the day of the fulfillment of this restoration.</p>
|
||
<p>Without question, Jesus Christ was a perfected individual; his mind and body intersected at the perfect 90 degree angle. However, he could not move on from that formation level of perfection to the growth level-marriage to a woman who could become the True Mother of mankind. That did not happen in Jesus’ lifetime. If Jesus could have achieved the Marriage of the Lamb, then he could have moved on to the nest level-the establishment of the position of True Parents. Then he world have moved on to achieve the unity of God with the entire universe. At that point, the ideal of God would have been established with the Kingdom of Heaven on earth, as well as in heaven.</p>
|
||
<p>Jesus was in the position to take a bride, his Eve. But there was no Eve for him at that time, only the Holy Spirit. If Jesus and a bride could have established the heavenly four-position foundation, then the attention of the universe would have been focused on the children’s position. God’s goal, as well as that of Adam and Eve and all of humanity, is to see God’s grandchildren, so to speak. Why has God been looking forward to seeing true children of Adam and Eve? It is because God’s love must come down to that point in order to be fulfilled in its totality. Without that, there can be no complete circuit, no return.</p>
|
||
<p>God will automatically come down to the center point when Adam and Eve are perfected in their true love. That is when human beings truly become the temples of God. When the next step is</p>
|
||
<p>taken and children are born to perfected Adam and Eve, they are totally free. They can move in any direction. Such perfected people are connected with the rest of humanity and the entire universe.</p>
|
||
<p>You are connected to all of the past in spirit world through your ancestors, and on into the future, through your children. The point of origin and the future point need to interact and turn with one another, interchanging positions. For that reason, the parents are very important here on earth. If you love your parents as much as you love your spouse or children, you are automatically connected to heaven.</p>
|
||
<p>Consider American society today in light of this principle. What is the position of parents and children? Some children have two, three or four fathers in succession. Others have several different stepmothers. Two, three, or four sets of parents! Is that the right way? No, that is the wrong way. How can you as Moonies establish the correct standard, the original position? It is by understanding and following this teaching I am giving you. Do you follow?</p>
|
||
<p>Without this happening, America shall perish There is no way around it. In such a society, everybody is destined for hell. This is not only logical, it is biblical. Heaven is not somewhere else; it is right here, within you. You make your world into heaven or hell.</p>
|
||
<p>Unless your family relationships are heavenly, how can you imagine that you will end up in heaven in spirit world? Your parents, spouse, and children must be representatives of heaven. All the human problems, past, present and future, are covered within this one principle. Today I am making this very clear to you.</p>
|
||
<p>When you enter your home, think to yourself, I am now walking into the Kingdom of Heaven.” When you leave home and go out into the world, consider that you are going to expand the purpose of heaven. If you live every day like that, how can you possibly fall into hell? Heaven is determined by how you live. You don’t need any special procedures or applications in order to enter heaven. You will find yourself in the same place as you were on earth If you were in heaven on earth, you will be elevated into heaven in spirit world. But if you were in hell on earth, that is where you will go.</p>
|
||
<p>Do you think I am talking off the top of my head, according to some whim, or are these words arising from the eternal, unchanging principles of God? Where is Satan. your enemy? Satan is dwelling within your own body. When the horizontal line of the body has always failed to cross the vertical line at the 90 degree angle, then the outcome is disfigurement. That i8 Satan’s work-to disfigure you. Do you know that clearly? If you really know that, you can chase Satan out more easily.</p>
|
||
<p>Satan’s first base is your body, which he is always trying to manipulate. The second base for Satan is your relationship with your spouse. The third base for Satan is with your children. Satan uses these three bases because of the fall of man. He knows the Principle very well, so he knows the necessity of fulfilling unity between East and West, heaven and earth, man and woman. He knows that God needs children.</p>
|
||
<p>Satan knows all of this, so he uses those three levels as his base for blocking the fulfillment of God’s ideal. This is the reason God has been searching for one true man and then one true women, then true children. Those are the three items which God lost and which He has been working so desperately to restore.</p>
|
||
<p>What is our title for today? It is “America, Wake Up!” How can America wake up? What is the method? Now you know what it is. When the Israelites entered the land of Canaan, first they built their holy temple for worshipping God, the Parent. Then they erected schools, and finally they built their homes.</p>
|
||
<p>The Pilgrim forefathers of this nation followed the same pattern. They first built their church; secondly, they built schools for the education of their posterity. Then they built their homes and the rest of their social needs, including hospitals, libraries, roads and so forth. Reading American history, it is beautiful to see that the earliest settlers lived together in a communal manner. They would go out each day to build their church and their schools. Finally, they built their individual homes and began living separately.</p>
|
||
<p>That is the very reason America has been blessed by God. When they built their church first, that meant they made a house for God. Then they built schools for the children. Finally, their houses were built, representing the dwelling place for Adam and Eve. Thus the three elements essential for the fulfillment of the ideal of creation were established.</p>
|
||
<p>In the four-position foundation, each position requires three objects. From God’s position, Adam and Eve and children are needed. From Adam’s position, God, Eve and children are needed. From Eve’s position, God, Adam and children; and from children’s position, father, mother and God are needed. The family exits for the sake of God. A nation, including the United States, is an assemblage of families. Therefore, the American nation must exist for the sake of God and the entire world. Isn’t that true?</p>
|
||
<p>The United States has outlawed the advertisement of cigarettes on television because they are so harmful to human health. Yet as part of its economic policy, America is trying to sell tobacco to Koreans. Is that a good and unselfish act? That is simply the way of Satan. How can this nation do such a thing? By the same token, because there is a surplus of beef here, beef producers want to keep only the prime cuts for sale here and ship the inferior cuts overseas to places such as Korea. Do you think America should continue those kinds of policies? America should be living for the benefit of the whole world. Any nation which departs from God’s way is destined to perish.</p>
|
||
<p>My teachings from the beginning have been to establish this absolute vertical line. The Unification movement is the place in which people can find that vertical line and draw their own horizontal line at a 90 degree angle. Once this is expanded to the rest of the world, prosperity shall blossom. Many people in the United States would like to see the Moonies disappear. But the rest of humanity and God Himself want to see Reverend Moon’s teachings survive and prosper. Which side will overrule the other? No matter what the American media or others may say, the Unification movement is protected by the universal power of God. As long as I am holding firmly to the vertical axis, no power can destroy or damage the Unification movement.</p>
|
||
<p>As the United States is falling down into destruction, can we just stand by and shake our head, or shall we do something about it? I have recognized the situation here and I know what must be done, so I cannot stand still. I am working hard to correct the problems. If God and True Parents want to work 24 hours a day, how many hours would you like to work? You have all kinds of reasons and excuses not to work hard. But if America perishes, the world itself cannot survive.</p>
|
||
<p>America is spreading its diseases to the rest of the world. AIDS is an example of this. Now Americans are feared and unwelcome. Other nations are not welcoming people from this country with open arms but are saying, “Stay away!</p>
|
||
<p>Don’t contaminate our land and our purity. ” Who shall pay the debts of America? Who can restore and stop this nation from declining? You must wake up.</p>
|
||
<p>The American media is playing up Korean problems, but I have just returned from there, and I can tell you that the real problems are not in Korea The problem is here, in America. That is why I came back at this time. Korea itself does not stand as a world power; its decline does not affect the rest of the world in the same way that America’s does. If the United States declines and is demolished, the rest of the free world will go with it.</p>
|
||
<p>Are you just a passive follower within the Unification movement, or have you been a pioneer and a front-line soldier? You utter lots of complaints, “We are too hungry. We need so many things.” Before the rest of America can wake up, you must wake up. Can you give the shot in the arm that the United States so desperately needs? You have to be awakened here, today, in this very moment and place. Do you have the injection that will save America from its disease? Will you be the injector or the injected? You must be the givers.</p>
|
||
<p>Where does your enemy work? Through your body, your husband or wife, your children. If you don’t love America more than all of those your body, your spouse, your children-then you will not be worthy of listening to my message today, truly not worthy to be called Unificationists. Is that clear to you?</p>
|
||
<p>Now you know from this morning’s message what you must do. This is the time to form a new resolve. I will not stay in this country unless you are determined to fulfill my directions to the letter. You must become worthy representatives of True Parents in this country; otherwise, I cannot feel right about staying here. I have worked so hard in Korea to mobilize the people to live up to the standard which I have been teaching this morning. The entire country of Korea is mobilized and, on the basis of that, I could come back here at this time. Are you going to do what I have asked?</p>
|
||
<p>Are you ready to dominate the three bases where the enemy strikes: body, spouse, and children? Will you do that in order to win the victory? If you fulfill that goal and grab God with strength, no power under the sun will ever separate you from God’s true love. Furthermore, your children and your spouse will not lose anything. They will be greatly blessed by following you and be embraced by God and the True Parents.</p>
|
||
<p>I want you to realize that I will not be staying here in this country. You take it for granted that I will always be here. I have nothing more to give to you unless and until you fulfill my directions. After that, I can give you and teach you more, but not until then.</p>
|
||
<p>Your destiny is clear. Those who will practice what I have taught and become victorious according to my teaching, stand up and raise your hands high. Let us pledge, “We shall do it.” (Three times) Thank you. God bless you!</p>

<p>Early Spring is the very beginning of spring. If our ancestors had not fallen, the moment they were born would have been the early spring of life. All they were supposed to do was to grow up and live their life centered on love. What is the seed from which Adam and Eve were born? It is God Himself. Man was created from the dual characteristics of God.</p>
|
||
<p>In the natural world, a seed sprouts and eventually grows into a tree or flower, and then it bears its own seeds. Seeds grow in every part of the world, east, west, north and south. On an apple tree, the fruit is redder on the side where the sun shines more. The fruit is paler where there is less sun. Likewise, the fruits and seeds from different directions and areas are slightly different, although the seed itself is of the same composition. The seed of human beings was God Himself. Like a tree, human society has grown branches. The trunk has become large, and its leaves have spread all the way around the world. That tree should be bearing the same kind of fruit and seeds it began with. A tree is a good textbook to show us how to live. It is a symbol of man’s life as it follows natural cycles and returns to a aced.</p>
|
||
<p>A tree has hundreds and thousands of leaves. A leaf doesn’t think much about anything except itself. The branches do the same. Meanwhile the root, which is hidden deep underground, is constantly sending nutrition up to them. Such is the situation of man. Man is usually very cognizant of the visible parts of his life, but hardly gives any thought at all to his hidden roots. God, like the root, is deep inside human society, which is growing above the ground.</p>
|
||
<p>Which part is more precious-that which is above ground, or that which is hidden underground? Why is the underground part more important? If you cut the top of a plant off, another plant can grow out of the same root. By the same token, which is more precious-man or the root of man? This is a simple but appropriate metaphor.</p>
|
||
<p>How do roots and branches grow? They grow according to law. Different plants and trees resemble the shape of their own seed-a tall alpine tree has a long seed, whereas the chestnut tree, like the chestnut itself, is round. The seeds contain the blueprint and the necessary ingredients for the tree to be deployed. Thus the tree assumes the same shape as its seed.</p>
|
||
<p>When the seed first sprouts, it has two parts. There are two directions, not one, because the seed has the two parts of plus and minus. God Himself is one being, but He has dual characteristics. So seeds and plants resemble God in this way.</p>
|
||
<p>Likewise, each human being has a mind and a body in dual relationship. Woman in the minus position and man in the plus position come together and give birth to more pluses and minuses. The same principle is true on every level of life.</p>
|
||
<p>When the sprout first starts coming out of the ground, it is nurtured from the food which is contained within the seed. By the time the nutrition contained in the sac of the seed is used up, both sides will have produced the necessary root. Suppose a seed lands on the soil upside down Even so, it still sprouts upward toward the sky and the root digs down into the soil. The plant must get its nutrition from above and below, from the root and from the air. Earth and heaven must have give and take.</p>
|
||
<p>The life of a plant is not as simple as it seems. In fact, it symbolizes the whole principle of the universe.</p>
|
||
<p>Why does the plant become bigger? It received nourishment, so it must give. Growing is a form of giving. Children want to grow up to be big. In growing, we become more aware of our surroundings; thus we can give more and receive more, too, enjoying give and take on many levels.</p>
|
||
<p>Imagine a huge tree which is really beautiful to behold. Although you can’t see its roots, they will be deeply laid. The tip of its root is small and lies hundreds of feet below the surface. Can you see that the tiniest leaf on the top is connected to that root? It is so high in one direction and so deep in the other that the connection is hard to see. Yet, without a relationship with the root, the leaf will eventually die.</p>
|
||
<p>By the same token, if we human beings say, ~I don’t care about the roots; they are separate from me,. then we too will start to die. The man who is aware of his root lives and prospers, while the man who does not recognize his root will die.</p>
|
||
<p>The leaves are close to each other so they appreciate one another. But the unity among leaves and branches is not just for their own sake. When all the branches and leaves above the ground are unified and are growing larger, it is because there is a large, healthy root. When the roots become stronger, the rest of the tree becomes stronger. It reflects the ideal cycle of good, brisk give and take in all directions.</p>
|
||
<p>Consider the trees in the wintertime. What do they do? They are dormant and do not grow. In winter, a warm, nourishing environment is lacking, so the elements cannot have strong give and take. Trees simply have to wait until springtime to grow. That is like being bound up and unable to do anything. For humans it would mean just breathing and existing. Does anyone want to live like that? No one does, regardless of whether they are young or old, or whether they are from the past or the present.</p>
|
||
<p>When a farmer puts down fertilizer, does he put it on the branches or leaves, or on the ground? The fertilizer nourishes the leaves and branches, but we put it on the ground. Why do we have to give nourishment to the ground first? The underground roots must grow and expand in order for the rest, the visible part, to grow and be strong.</p>
|
||
<p>Traditionally, Western culture has appreciated and pursued the revealed, visible aspects of the world. On the other hand, the Eastern cultures have put more value on the hidden world beneath the surface. It is a striking contrast. Here in the Western world, people are very active; they go hunting and they sail over the oceans. They dissect things and do experiments with everything to learn about the world. By contrast, when Oriental people want to know something, they sit down and meditate about it!</p>
|
||
<p>We can compare the characteristics of Western and Eastern people with the parts of a tree. When a strong wind blows, the branches and leaves dance around in all different directions. But have you ever seen the roots dance? The roots hold the rest of the tree firm.</p>
|
||
<p>As long as the trunk, branches and leaves are healthy, they don’t think deeply; but as soon as they get sick and fear for their life, they start wondering about the root. When Western civilization is sick and troubled, as it is now, people start looking to the East to try to find their way back to good health.</p>
|
||
<p>China and India are the two largest, most heavily populated nations in the Orient. How have these huge countries remained intact? Seeing the millions of Chinese and Indian people, we know that there must be an equal quantity of roots beneath them.</p>
|
||
<p>Fertilizer is put on the ground to feed the part of the tree which we can’t see. The fertilizer for human beings is thought and prayer. These give nourishment to our root. We have to constantly give more and more nourishment to the underground root.</p>
|
||
<p>Which is more important to society: creating more inventions, developing greater technology, or digging down deeper and learning about our roots? Digging down and paying attention to the root, or to religion, is more important.</p>
|
||
<p>The religion tradition is the most precious part of human society. Especially precious is that religion which emphasizes the relationship between the deepest part of the root and the highest part of the branches. Without such a religious thought and teaching, the world would really be in danger. When give and take between the under- and above-ground parts is very active and strong, then so is the whole society and culture.</p>
|
||
<p>Look at the average American person. Is he trying to dig down to his roots, or is he focused on the visible, upper parts of life? Almost everybody is trying to reach higher and higher, gaining more and more in that direction, but they can’t do that without a deep root. At its present rate, American society must perish. It will happen naturally, according to universal law, even though nobody wants to perish.</p>
|
||
<p>When a Western person gets kicked, he will immediately stand up and fight against the adversary. But when an Oriental gets kicked, he tries to protect himself. What do you predict-will Western society continue to prosper at the same rate it has in the past?</p>
|
||
<p>I recently visited Columbia University in New York City, and I observed an interesting phenomenon. Out of twelve professors, four of them were Korean and only two were American. The others were from several different countries. Why are so many Koreans here in the United States, particularly on college campuses? Korean people study religion and philosophy with great seriousness, seeking to dig down to the core truths. Now it is a widely-discussed social phenomenon that Orientals, especially Koreans, are occupying a large number of academic positions in the United States. Likewise, a high percentage of students in the Ivy League schools are Korean.</p>
|
||
<p>Imagine that you were a company executive looking for employees. There are some brash and talkative candidates and others who are more reserved. Which type would you choose to appoint to a responsible position? You American women answer me first! If you were the president of a company and you had to choose a department leader, would</p>
|
||
<p>you pick a talkative person or a more reticent one? Your mind knows that the more valuable person is the one who doesn’t talk all the time. How does the mind know? The mind i8 connected to the original root, 80 it understands these things.</p>
|
||
<p>If a father is ready to pass on a central position in the family to one of his children, which would he be likely to choose? To whom would you give that central mission? Would you choose the son or daughter who laughs and talks a lot, constantly expressing his thoughts and feelings, or the one who is more quiet and calm? Certainly, the one who is more quiet would be more trustworthy. Roots do not move; they are silent and deep. The person who speaks a lot is bound to make more mistakes and to make more trouble, whereas a person who keeps things to himself can create harmony.</p>
|
||
<p>Can you think about God at the same time that you are laughing and merry-making? Yet, it i8 common to think about God when you are in a contemplative mood. Western Unification Church members, especially in America, rarely pray. When you do pray, it is almost never for one solid hour, and certainly not for ten hours straight. Now do you have a better idea why you have to pray?</p>
|
||
<p>Should we value the present time, or should we cherish the past more? Thinking about and evaluating the past means we cherish tradition. What is the most important part of tradition? Honor your parents, your brothers and sisters, and your good ancestors. That is the root. By studying history, people can learn many things and become wise. In that way, they will prosper.</p>
|
||
<p>Then who are Reverend Moon and the members of the Unification Church? We are the ones who want to dig deeply down to the roots of life. Before you joined this movement, you didn’t have that attitude.</p>
|
||
<p>Today I have to meet a certain time deadline, so I cannot speak for a long time. I have spoken to you so much already, what more is there to say?</p>
|
||
<p>Your root must go down straight. Which do you think is more difficult-for the root to dig down straight, or for the tips of the leaves to reach upward? Yes, the roots have to work harder to dig down. For a person, a country, or a civilization to become great and extend itself, visualize how far down its roots must go. By looking at the history of civilization, we can conclude that our root is still moving down in a certain constant direction, even while mankind is undergoing such turbulence. Imagine how much God has worked and prepared everything underground.</p>
|
||
<p>Those families, clans and nations who declined and perished in history were those who scorned the invisible world of religion and even persecuted religious people.</p>
|
||
<p>In your opinion, is God sad or happy? We must understand that God’s experience has been the most tragic of all. We can feel something of that tragedy when an individual dies, or a family breaks up, or a country falls to pieces and declines, but God has borne more sorrow than that by Himself. We feel outrage and sorrow at the deaths of millions of people under communist regimes, yet we must understand that God’s suffering has been even greater than that.</p>
|
||
<p>There are many branches on a tree, but which should be the main branch? They cannot all be of equal size. The one which stands in the center is the tallest and the main branch. If only the easterly branches prosper, a tree will lean to the east. A slanted tree is not attractive to look at.</p>
|
||
<p>By the same token, look at the world in general and the drastic differences between Eastern and Western hemispheres, the disparity of wealth between the North and South. One is so poor and the other so rich. Who is going to balance that situation? The source of balance for the fallen world can only be found within the tradition of religion. It cannot be solved within the purely material realm. The roots of a tree have many different parts, just as the tradition of religion has many different denominations. Right now they are confronting and even opposing each other. Unless and until the roots of religion become one, the world cannot become one. Our Unification Church members must know that clearly.</p>
|
||
<p>My work has been focused on that point. First, I have sought to unify all the Christian denominations, and after that, all the peripheral or side religions. Someone must do this that someone is the Unification Church.</p>
|
||
<p>From this moment on, when you look at trees, you will think about these points. If you see a tree projecting out in only one direction, think: “Oh, that reminds me of our situation. We have to have a balance among all sides.. All you American members here represent the Western world and I am representing the Eastern world. Who is the root? Then what are you? You are the branches, leaves, trunks. Am I a straight root or a crooked one? How about you? Do you have a straight trunk? It is becoming straight and strong, isn’t it? I have been teaching you continually how to grow straight.</p>
|
||
<p>By nature, black and white people have some different characteristics. You might say that white people have been underexposed to the sun. Have you ever seen an apple which is red on one side and pale on the other? When you take the first bite of such an apple, where do you want to sink your teeth? Certainly, in the red side. By the same token, black people have more of the roots-they are richer in emotion with more things to cherish inside themselves than white people. All there is to white people, in general, is what we see outside; there is not so much inside.</p>
|
||
<p>The sun represents light, original life, and therefore love. All creatures naturally follow the sun so they can be most alive. Sunshine is symbolic of love. Thus black people have absorbed more love and are more deeply emotional. White people for the most part are cold. Look at the frigid North Pole, where there is not much sun.</p>
|
||
<p>Western men and women are very individualistic and they tend to think about themselves first, not others. When you are in the shade perhaps you have to worry about yourself, but when the sun drives away the shade, everyone is warm.</p>
|
||
<p>What have I been doing here in America? I agitated white people; I have made you think more. Also I made you suffer more, something you never wanted to do. I discouraged you from merriment and pushed you to think deeper and suffer more. I have done that in order to change you.</p>
|
||
<p>Look at the trend toward labor in America: “Let’s work only five hours a day, five days a week.” What about the Japanese? They say, “Let’s work ten hours a day.” The Koreans are saying, “Let’s work twenty hours!” American society is in an uproar over that standard. “They work too much,” people say. Koreans are naturally gaining more wealth. In New York, people are expressing anger and resentment toward Koreans. The black community is complaining because Koreans are making money so fast. But it is happening naturally- the more diligently you work, the more material things will be drawn to you.</p>
|
||
<p>The solution is so simple. What both the white and the black people of America must do is to work harder than the Koreans. Then America will once again spring up in vitality. Otherwise, Koreans will be taking more and more positions of responsibility in American society. You might not like that, but you can’t help it because it is natural. This is not just my thinking. The ones who work the hardest eventually take the positions of influence within any society.</p>
|
||
<p>I have been working very hard. I know that someday this society will have to follow my standard. It is natural law. No matter how much America goes against me, in the end Reverend Moon’s standard will win out. Can you understand that?</p>
|
||
<p>From now on, each of you will yearn to look at a tree at least once a day, isn’t that true? Let them teach you. Be educated by the trees.</p>
|
||
<p>We don’t enjoy being reminded of the results of the fall and all the difficulties we have to go through because of that. Traditional Christianity has been thinking that God has everything; He can do anything; He knows everything. Therefore, He is the great, glorious, ideal God of joy. People have associated only happy things with God. But now Reverend Moon comes and teaches you something completely different: God is the saddest, the most miserable, suffering Person in the universe. At first you couldn’t believe it, but little by little, you have grown to understand this truth.</p>
|
||
<p>Don’t you think God is glad to find so many people who are finally understanding Him as He really is? When we begin to understand God, then He can start sharing His heart with us. Out of all the human beings, I am the one who knows most deeply how miserable God is. Then, was meeting Reverend Moon a good or a bad event in your life? You said good, and I believe and trust that. I believe that you like my words, but you don’t like to follow what I say, do you? This is the dividing point. The one who loves my actions and tries to do as I do will go to the heavenly realm with God. Otherwise, you cannot go there.</p>
|
||
<p>Our topic today is the early spring of life. As we have said, each person starts out from a seed and then goes through many different circumstances and activities. We all have many relationships with the environment, and then we return to the beginning point, that of a seed. Like the tree, a person is supposed to grow in a balanced way between his plus and minus sides.</p>
|
||
<p>As a person grows older, he is exposed to many different people, many different leaves and branches. From that, you will get proper nutrition before you form a seed. When is the time for the flower to come out? It is in spring, correct? When is your springtime? It is when you get married. That is when you come to know about the opposite sex.</p>
|
||
<p>You sisters here-do you need a man? How much? You need him so much that you don’t mind being occupied one hundred percent by him. American women do not like to be dominated. You think it is a horrible idea to give yourself up. You can’t possibly do that! But something in your mind says, “You must do that.. Although you expect misery, you find your husband and you find love. Not only that, you also find yourself. Love has that kind of power. How wonderful love is. Most American people do not know this secret point. It is actually the businesslike way, the pragmatic path. In love, you do not lose you gain! Do you understand? When you invest yourself completely, you gain a total return on your investment.</p>
|
||
<p>Flowers have male and female parts. When the female and male parts of a flower come together, a seed is formed. Does the female part of a flower fly around and land on the male part, or is it the other way around? At that time, at that moment, the female part actually plays the role of plus because the male pollen flies in. The seed grows in the female part.</p>
|
||
<p>You all wanted to get married, didn’t you? Do you want to stay as you are and find love, or do you want to give yourself up and be enveloped and controlled by love? On this foundation, one finds love and is uplifted gradually to heaven. Husband and wife are able to go together to heaven. Love follows this vertical line.</p>
|
||
<p>In your seed are all the things that you inherited from your ancestry. Both male and female are the total expressions of their ancestry. The essence of the two seeds is exactly the same; they are equal.</p>
|
||
<p>Look at the American family. Should a child deviate from the parents, or should he resemble them? What do we see now? Today’s American family has so many problems. The sons and daughters are at variance with the parents. Children should ideally be the fruit born of the first love, not the second love. Is that clear?</p>
|
||
<p>The fallen world is going against the original way in every conceivable aspect. I came here and started teaching you American people how far from the ideal you were. In the beginning, no one liked it. But I want you to become engrafted into the true root, getting all your elements from God. Then you will naturally produce a seed which is much more Godly.</p>
|
||
<p>The fallen world’s root, as we know, is different from the original root. That root is the problem. God doesn’t want a deviated root, so He is working to reverse the root of the world. That work i8 what we call re-creation.</p>
|
||
<p>If we could draw a picture of the Unification Church, it would look like a tree with many strong roots. Now we are about to branch out. You came here from many different roots, but now you are grafting onto the central, true root. The simple purpose of religion is for fallen man to be grafted into God.</p>
|
||
<p>First, we need to be cut away from the old root. Where should we make that separation, at our foot or at our neck? The Bible promises that those who are willing to die for God will live; those who seek to live will die. Therefore we must be willing to cut ourselves off from old ties.</p>
|
||
<p>Would you prefer to cut yourself from the old root, or would you like someone else to help you? Can you do it yourself? You need someone else’s help. Who is that someone else? It has to be someone who represents the ideal, an original person, not a fake. The invisible, hidden parent is God. The visible, tangible parents are our True Parents. That is why you want to be engrafted onto the True Parents. You want to be cut off from the fallen American root, inheritance and tradition-you want to sever every fallen connection.</p>
|
||
<p>How does this relate to our topic, the new spring of life? We will be cut off from the old root and be grafted onto a new root. Our new life will bud and flower. Once we are engrafted, how are we going to live? We will live as straight as the root which formed the tree. You must live consistently with the tradition of the True Parents. When you do that, every part of you will be fulfilling one hundred percent: your leaves, branches, roots, and your seed. When you fulfill this one hundred percent standard of perfect fruit, then you can return to God.</p>
|
||
<p>Until now, you have been enduring a long, bitter winter. You became rather adapted to the wintertime. But now spring has come, and everything starts growing with new vigor. When you break your leg, you have to wear a cast for many months, but eventually you have to get out of it. When you do, you are bound to experience certain aches and pains associated with healing.</p>
|
||
<p>We must go over all cultural and national barriers. You have to separate from your old heritage and be grafted into a new root. Then you will start to grow. That is when you meet the new spring.</p>
|
||
<p>Do you feel that what I have described is exactly the way you ought to go? Or do you think, “Well, that’s generally right.” It has to be precisely that way, not generally that way. So your central figure with whom you work is always an issue. You have to support him, go along with him. When you do, everything becomes harmonious.</p>
|
||
<p>Do you feel confident that you can live that way now? Which should you emphasize more the present, past, or the future? The past is the root; the future is our goal. They are more important than where we are today. We must go vertically to the apex, the summit. The vertical beam is the main pillar in a house.</p>
|
||
<p>When you know this general rule, you know what kind of husband or wife you are, what kind of child or parent you are. You know whether you are worthy of going to heaven or not. No one else has to tell you.</p>
|
||
<p>We and all of mankind are about to go in a new direction. New life and new growth will be sprouting everywhere. Therefore, Unification Church members will be very busy from now on. You are the ones who must not only go this way, but also lay the foundation for the rest of the world.</p>
|
||
<p>This is the way we must go at this time of history, the early spring of life. Those who say, “Yes, I will grow and reach the top,” please raise your hands. God bless you. Let us pray.</p>

<p>The whole of humanity, as well as the animal, vegetable, and mineral kingdoms, has a certain mission to fulfill. Since God is the Creator, He must have a certain plan or pattern for what He wants to accomplish, according to His will. However, we often feel that we would like to do things only the way we want to do them, according to our own will. There is no difference between the races as far as this feeling goes. Oriental or Westerner, rich or poor, everyone has the urge to do as they like.</p>
|
||
<p>There are many different classes and levels of people among the five billion people of the world, from the lofty to the lowly. We all think we exist separately or independently from other people or groups, but we do not exist that way. Americans are ancestrally connected to Britain, Europe, and Africa. Beyond that, we are connected to all of history. We are not alone. We are not independent. Have you ever stopped to think that your eyes are not yours alone? Your father’s eyes, your mother’s eyes, your grandparents’ eyes, and all your ancestors’ eyes are in your eyes. They are a part of all history.</p>
|
||
<p>When we go out on the street in the springtime, we see women dressed in all different colors, shapes, and designs. Each one wants to stand out from the crowd and be unique, doesn’t she? People like to feel, “I do not belong to anyone. I am completely independent. I don’t have to be influenced by anyone.” But to think like that is to no avail, because it just isn’t so.</p>
|
||
<p>While every one of us exists as “I,” as an individual, we are never alone and independent or detached from others. We are a part of the whole of mankind, the whole line of history, and “I” exist in the center of that.</p>
|
||
<h3 align="center">We All Have a Proper Place</h3>
|
||
<p>Let us consider that we are all like works of art in an exhibition. If the world is a museum, then “I” am one of the exhibits. Each exhibit must stay in his position. No matter how valuable an object is, or no matter how valuable an individual may be, if he does not stay where he is supposed to and wanders around according to his own will, he is immediately valueless because he is not serving his purpose.</p>
|
||
<p>We all have a proper place and should not go just anywhere we feel. If I stay where I am supposed to stay and go in the direction true human beings are supposed to go, then I, as a representative of all human beings, will be cherished by the universe.</p>
|
||
<p>Leaders should be in the leaders’ position. If a leader leaves his position on his own and goes somewhere else, he loses his value. He is the same person, but if he is in a different position, he is not as valuable there. When a leader leaves his proper place and goes the wrong way, the other people feel, “I wish he wasn’t my leader.” In the same way, parents have certain expectations of their children. They want their child to do what he is supposed to do and become successful in life. But what if that child becomes involved with the wrong things and makes trouble all the time? The parents might think, “Oh, I wish that child wasn’t mine.” Is it because the parent is unloving that he thinks this way? No. We can understand that parent’s heart. It is because the parent knows universal law; he knows which way his child should go. His original mind and conscience know, and when that child goes astray, he feels a great deal of pain.</p>
|
||
<p>This situation extends to the society and national level. Even a country is supposed to go in a certain direction. If it doesn’t, we may wish that country just didn’t exist. Look at the powerful communist countries. A few decades ago, some people briefly thought that communism was the highest ideology, but time has proven that communism is not going in the direction of mankind’s ideals. Now they are saying, “Communism must contain itself; it must not spread.” Even many of the communist countries themselves think that communism should be dissolved.</p>
|
||
<p>Why is this? It is because the conscience of each individual human being knows the original way he is supposed to go. We always have to check and make sure we are in the right position. If we are not, either we correct our position or our position is eliminated. We have to constantly ask ourselves, “Am I standing in a position where I will never be eliminated?” Do you have the confidence to say, “Yes, Father. I am where I am supposed to be. I am very sure about that. I must stay where I am because the world needs me and the universe needs me.” This is a serious matter. Some people are not sure, so they have to find out where their leader wants them go. But suppose there is a person who is constantly checking himself and striving to go in the right direction, the unmistakable direction. He continually tries to bring himself more and more closely into the true position. Such a person is destined to be a leader of the rest of mankind.</p>
|
||
<p>What is the true way? The Orient has produced many saints. Confucius, Buddha, Jesus, and Mohammed all came from the East. But who is the saint of all saints? Christians would say Jesus, but wouldn’t the Buddhists say Buddha? This could be confusing. Are there many different paths a human being must go? What if those four saints got together and tried to determine whose way was better. One thing they wouldn’t say is, “My way is best.” Instead they would each say, “I will ask Heaven and see which direction is the best of all.” That is the difference between saints and ordinary people.</p>
|
||
<p>What about someone from the secular world? How would they come up with the best idea? They would probably form a Board of Directors and hire representatives. They would analyze their findings and come to a certain conclusion. Their answer may be right for a season. They may be right for that time in history, but for all other times it may not apply.</p>
|
||
<p>The founding fathers of America agreed upon a system of democracy. They saw very clearly that democracy was the only thing that would work. They tried to be very conscientious in creating their constitution and then they asked God if it was right. When they got the answer that it was, they ratified it. But that was 200 years ago. Look how much the environment has changed since then. Is what the people decided 200 years ago exactly right for now? Impossible. The American people should be constantly going back to God and saying, “Are we still all right?” Yet has there ever been a president who asked God exactly how to do things? No. Not here or anywhere. Pragmatism has always served the immediate purpose. Pragmatism means doing not what God decides but what man decides is the most practical thing in the moment. We cannot be satisfied with pragmatism. We know there is something higher. Shouldn’t we abandon secularism and humanism in hopes of reaching something more lasting and enduring?</p>
|
||
<p>When each of the four saints started out, each was quite confident that he was going in the most righteous direction. But eventually each came to realize that his way was not perfect after all. Today, the followers of each of these saints are fighting bitterly amongst themselves and against each other. That is proof enough that none of their ways is the ultimate way. Then how shall we resolve this? Where can we find the true way? We have to go back to Heaven and ask God what we should do.</p>
|
||
<h3 align="center">More Precious Than Scripture</h3>
|
||
<p>Why did I come to America? It is very simple. I knew that while the direction Christianity was going may have been right once, it is no longer adequate. The people need to be shown a higher way, a way that represents human beings and history more fully. The people need to be uplifted so that America can serve as a leader of the entire world. I came to America to provide that impetus. What if the four saints got together for a conference and, with God as the chairman, discussed how the world should be? First, there would be a debate, with each saint explaining his own view. Do you think they would come to a conclusion as to which was the true way in one month’s time? How about a year’s time? If God and the saints were at the conference table year after year with still no consensus, they would get exhausted and give up, wouldn’t they?</p>
|
||
<p>Then would God, who is also getting tired of the conference, say, “Well, since we can’t come to an agreement, I’ll make the decision?” No. The four saints would say, “God, You can’t go against the law of Your own creation, the law of man’s responsibility.” God would admit, “Okay, you’re right. You four saints represent all of humankind, so you decide. Tell me, what do you think are the most significant teachings?” Jesus might say, “The Bible is the utmost direction-giver. Without the Bible we could never follow the true way of life.” Then Mohammed might say, “No, we must decide everything based on the Koran.” Then there would be even more serious debates. But think about it. What is more important and significant than those holy books? You Unification Church members are saints or near-saints or should be. What is more significant than the Bible, the Koran, or any book? What is the point about which all the saints would say, “Yes, I agree that that is the most important thing of all?”</p>
|
||
<p>Yes, it’s true love. No one would oppose this. Even Satan knows this. The most important things are true love, true life, and true living. People have been so serious about the Koran and the Bible, yet the purpose of these books was to lead people to a conscientious way of life, the true way of life. The books themselves are not the goal.</p>
|
||
<p>Suppose these three things — true love, true life, and true living — came up for consideration as the most important things in the world. Would you, Confucius, and Jesus all vote for them? Yes, and all five billion people in the world would agree about these three points. Do you think anyone would find any objection to this conclusion, saying, “That’s not enough?” Not likely.</p>
|
||
<p>How about God? Would God reject that conclusion? No, even God would have to agree. But should God say first, “This is what I know you need?” Or should the four saints go to God and say, “God, there is nothing more precious than this. This is what we are longing for. Please give it to us.”</p>
|
||
<h3 align="center">The True Love Direction</h3>
|
||
<p>Today’s topic is “<i>The Will and I</i>.” What is the will of God, anyway? The will of God is that man should stand in a certain position and go in a certain direction — the true love direction. That is what God wanted to express from the very beginning. If saints leave their position and go in a deviated direction, they no longer have anything to do with God or God’s will. If the saints do not become one with the will of God, can they remain in the position of saints?</p>
|
||
<p>Imagine that the Unification Church is a big exhibition center where all the different things that God wants to see are exhibited. Shouldn’t a person on display stay where he is supposed to stay and go in the direction he is supposed to go? Here is the American museum. But suppose the museum moves to Korea and all the objects have to be moved to the Korean museum. Will the objects say, “No, I don’t want to go to the Korean museum. I am fine in the American museum?” What if the display were to go to Africa. Would the objects say, “No, I would rather not go to the African museum?” The purpose of the display is to show the whole world. If that person on display says such things, is that person connected with God’s will or has he failed?</p>
|
||
<p>As a human being, actually as a saint, we must say, “There is a way I must go. There is a way I must follow, whether it be straight or winding. Whatever I may personally feel about it, still I am destined to go that way.”</p>
|
||
<p>It is very hard to know God and stay with God, but at least we know the head of the museum, who can tell us where we are supposed to be. There are many religions and some are very good, but who is qualified to be the head of the museum of religion? All of the religions of the world have been separated. They have been fighting and they have been confused, but there is one that spends millions and millions of dollars plus time, effort and prayer to bring all the world’s religions together.</p>
|
||
<p>In the religious world, people are saying that the only hope of the religious world is Rev. Moon. He has brought religious people to the point where they would rather worship together than apart. What is the purpose of the Unification Church? Is it to separate Buddhism from Christianity or to divide the Christian churches? No. The purpose of the Unification Church, of course, is to bring all the churches together into one.</p>
|
||
<p>Many churches still insist merely on the truth of their own scripture. But there is one church that places much more importance upon these three things — true love, true life, and true living. Would God go to a place where utmost importance is put on doctrine or would He follow us here? Why? Because when people come here, they can always find their rightful position — being an object to the true subject, God.</p>
|
||
<h3 align="center">Perpetual Circular Motion</h3>
|
||
<p>Once you have correctly established the position of subject and object, you can always talk to God. You are free in this position of object to God, and you can find real peace and security there. You are provided for; you have no worries. As long as you take these three things seriously, then you don’t have to worry about anything else, because this is the will of God.</p>
|
||
<p>As you have noticed, the words “life,” “love,” and “living” are all abstract nouns. They do not have a shape. Therefore, God took time and great pains to make physical things out of His ideas. Men and women were created by God with substantial, physical bodies to be the embodiment of true love, true life, and true living.</p>
|
||
<p>Did God inject true life and love into man or did man inject it into God? God did it, therefore, He is the subject body. He is the center of being, the one who exists totally for the sake of others. This is the way God intended it. This is the philosophy that the Unification Church is teaching — the philosophy of living for the sake of others. This is very, very important; this is the very essence of God’s ideal.</p>
|
||
<p>What is true life? God is the center of life, and He invested His own life into the creation. That is true life. God invested Himself completely, not halfway. He did not keep some back. That is what “true” means. True life means that God has completely placed Himself into others.</p>
|
||
<p>True life is direct. It allows for no deviation. But if you just continue going straight ahead and never return, there can be no ideal. The ideal exists where there is perpetual circular motion, going out and coming back again and again, forever. With true life alone there can be no ideal. You need a response, or else there is no eternity. But true love has the power to make you turn around, so when you add true love to true life, the ideal is created. Look at little children — they never want to just go in a straight line even for a minute. They want to go around and around. Aren’t you that way too?</p>
|
||
<p>Why is love so precious and necessary? Because love brings you your object or subject. Why did God inject such preciousness-His own self and life — into man? Isn’t it because God also needs love? Does God take pleasure in always pulling you in one direction? Doesn’t He need some response? When He pulls on you, wouldn’t He want you to pull back on Him?</p>
|
||
<p>God invested in us until He had nothing left. He emptied Himself completely. That is the nature of being true. So we should give something back to Him, shouldn’t we? How? By living for the sake of others. When you live for the sake of others, there is a force always coming back and igniting love.</p>
|
||
<h3 align="center">Invest Yourself Totally</h3>
|
||
<p>This is how God is: God invests everything into a being, and then that being experiences love. Then that explosive love will be returned back to the original Being who made all that investment. God created everything according to this principle.</p>
|
||
<p>Since God gave everything to man, a man should want to give everything to a woman. Then the woman will want to give everything back to the man, and the man will want to give everything back to God. Things are created that way. When this give and take action takes place in a lively way, then the two will come into complete unity and never separate. That is the focal point of God’s love. When a man and woman are really in love and live in love, God is living there too. That is the most ideal place, the nucleus.</p>
|
||
<p>This is the secret of a subject-object relationship, the secret of being a spouse. Pour your love into your spouse; live for the sake of your spouse; do things for his sake, day after day. When he gets saturated, he may say, “Why are you doing all this? I don’t want this,” and he may even want to escape. But if you continue loving him, he will turn around and return your love. Love will grow. That is the Principle of Creation.</p>
|
||
<p>What are saints? Saints are the ones who are ahead of other people in realizing, practicing, and teaching this principle. In other words, saints are people who have expanded this realm of living for the sake of others. It’s all part of the law of the creation. We must go and we must love. We must put all our love and everything we have into our families, into other people, and into the nation. This is the course we have to follow. Then this living principle will just go around and around and expand throughout space.</p>
|
||
<p>There is only one way for us to go. I, as an individual, must love my spouse and then bring all of society into oneness and later meet God. Then I will fall in love with God and jump into that love and live happily day by day. When I will really be living for the sake of other people, the society, and the nation.</p>
|
||
<p>If you are trying to find love, you are misguided. You cannot “find” love. It goes against the process of the law of creation to look for love. You have to invest yourself first. Have you done that? Have your poured your love into your spouse? Love is bound to come back to you as much as you have poured your life into the other. When that happens, love starts coming back.</p>
|
||
<p>We are establishing this tradition here on earth for the first time in history. I have lived for the sake of leaving this tradition behind. My life has been absolutely consistent with the will of God. I always invest myself wholeheartedly. I spare nothing. I always search out how I can give even more. Then all things start to follow me. At that point ownership begins. That is when you start to truly own things. A husband and wife may think they love each other and say they love each other, but they need to be patient with each other. If one disagrees with the other and gets offended and they start quarreling, that is obviously not love. Love emerges when we want to put our whole life into the relationship so there is nothing more to put in. After that love starts coming back. Then there is no more quarrelling.</p>
|
||
<p>The more we love, the more love and ownership will come to us. That is the living, daily philosophy of the Unification Church. When we practice this, we are guaranteed to be on the right path. Even if we do not realize where we are going, we are going in the right direction. Imagine a big family with many, many brothers and sisters and uncles and aunts and in-laws. Who is going to be the center of that family, the master of that house, in the future? It will be the person who invests the most into that family. It will be the person who gives everything he has for the sake of the other family members day in and day out without expecting anything in return. You can predict who is going to be the center of that household and be the true owner of everything. Everyone and everything will want to belong to that person.</p>
|
||
<p>We know we must love the world, but that concept is too vague. How do we love? This is something that Unification Church members must know. We have to put our life totally into what we are doing. This is what God has done for us. If we do that all things will want to belong to us. In order to own everything with love, give. Give all you have. This is our credo.</p>
|
||
<p>Don’t say, “Where is love?” Don’t say, “My husband must love me,” or “I expect love from my wife.” If you do, peace and love can never be realized within your family. There is no love until we put our love in. Do you understand? This is an amazing truth. On an individual level all the way up to the national level, we must love unto our very lives. If you put in everything you have, your investment will return as love towards you. How wonderful that is!</p>
|
||
<p>If you want to be a true mother or true father, you must ask yourself how much you have loved your children in a righteous way. Children who are loved absolutely will never want to leave you, even if you scold them. When everything comes back to you and wants to be owned by you, you can live happily every day. That is the ideal. God loves us, but we have to love God too. All things belong to God, and if we love God, all things also belong to us. There is no other way to own anything in the universe except through loving God. If we love God, we begin to own things.</p>
|
||
<h3 align="center">Your Own Mind Knows</h3>
|
||
<p>How do you know if you have invested everything? Your own mind knows before anyone tells you. You know whether you have given your 100 percent or not. Nobody needs to tell you. In the spirit world you will not be able to pretend, because everything will be revealed. Daily living for the sake of each other is the ideal. There is no other way you can find the ideal. Did you know that God tries to love even Satan? That is the amazing reality we must learn.</p>
|
||
<p>Every day I am so excited that I hate it when one day ends. I can’t wait until the next day dawns. That kind of excitement is the ideal way. Unless and until we put everything we have into what we are doing, we cannot realize true joy. Just put in more and more everyday without thinking what will be returned. Then you will always have more and more — never less. I have always followed this formula.</p>
|
||
<p>At the last moment you may feel you have done enough. Then insist on putting in one more bit of effort. This one step makes all the difference. When love owns you, you can’t oppose it. You have to belong to somebody. How can you object to belonging to someone who truly loves you?</p>
|
||
<p>Do you think I’m a happy person? Why do you think so? Because I know that in the future, even Satan, even the communists, will not be able to oppose me. How can they oppose me when I love them?</p>
|
||
<p>What is the will of God? It is to fulfill the ideal of creation, which is to form a four position foundation and live for the sake of others. When you do so, all the love ownership comes back to God. If you fulfill this, you will have lived the will of God. Such a couple will be an ideal family and live happily ever after. This is the nucleus through which the whole world can be connected. The world is an extension of such a family.</p>
|
||
<p>The ideal life is putting everything we have into our ideal. No country will oppose this way of life; therefore, we can go anywhere and be welcome. This is the ideal; his is the will of God; and this is our philosophy. If we really live this philosophy, won’t the world become the ideal world?</p>
|
||
<p>The secular world today has its philosophy: “I want to be loved. I’m going to take whatever I can get.” With that philosophy, there can never be unity or peace. The Unification Church’s teaching and God’s formula is to live for the sake of other people. Then automatically, the world will come into unity.</p>
|
||
<p>How can we say that it will automatically come into unity? Because God lives that way. If we live that way, our unity becomes broader and broader. God lives the way I have described, and we are about to live the same way. This is the way I have always lived. There is no other way; there is no other secret but this. The proof is striking. Now we all see that the ideal world is at hand.</p>
|
||
<p>Do you say, “Oh, I expect the ideal world will come pretty soon. I don’t need make any effort to live in that kind of world. When I die, I will go to heaven.” If we think like that, we are no better than thieves. What is a thief? He doesn’t work, yet he takes everything. You have to realize that you have come thus far because of the investment of True Parents. Without that investment, you would not be able to participate in God’s world.</p>
|
||
<h3 align="center">Not With Shame But Dignity</h3>
|
||
<p>If we do not do enough, how can we stand in front of God? Our conscience will not permit us to. One thing we should never be in the future is ashamed of ourselves. I have always lived conscious of the fact that I could never lead a life I was ashamed of.</p>
|
||
<p>We need salvation. This is a very real situation. We want to be saved, and we will be saved, not with shame but with dignity. We cannot eat as we like; we cannot sleep as we like; we cannot say and do things as we like when there is the possibility that later we might be ashamed of that action. At this very moment, our brothers and sisters are losing their lives in the hands of Satan. How can we be complacent?</p>
|
||
<p>You must not just borrow this way of thinking and this way of life from me, but you must make it your own. You must be proud of the concept itself and live this life just as I do so that you can become true descendents. I do not just think this way, I live way. It is not just words; it is actions.</p>
|
||
<p>Now we know how we will achieve salvation and how we can be saved with dignity, without shame. We are all individual messiahs of love. When we practice love, love will come back to us, with ownership. That is reality.</p>
|
||
<p>Plant love and you will never perish. You may suffer, but you will never perish or be ashamed. Do you understand? Those who say, “Father, I understand deeply now and I will live the way of love,” raise your hands. Let us pray.</p>
|

<p></center>Do you feel happy to see me again? It has been a little more than three months since December 2, when I left this country the last time. I understand that you have been waiting eagerly for my return. Of course, I also understand that the brothers and sisters in Korea have been waiting to see me for many years now. I have come to the realization again that I can’t stay in any one place all the time because I am awaited by people everywhere. Of course, I have only one physical body but still people everywhere want to see me.</p>
|
||
<p>Why do you think this is happening? As you know, we are from different racial backgrounds-some people have blue eyes, some have a big nose, some have a large mouth. Yet all these different people are waiting and longing for me. Why is this happening?</p>
|
||
<p>Think about the field of sports. If you are serious about boxing, you will naturally want to meet eventually with the world champion boxer. Or if you are a sumo wrestler, you will want to encounter the champion of sumo wrestling. Reverend Moon is not really popular in a secular sense, yet people are yearning to meet him. Why? Of course, people desire many different things, but what is universally sought after is the truth and love. That is why people want to meet me.</p>
|
||
<p>The problem in this world is that we can’t find true love and a true man who brings true love. Then what is the truth and what kind of person is the true man? Truth cannot be changed; truth has selfauthority. No matter what happens or what kind of difficulty or persecution it may encounter, truth can never be destroyed or changed. It has selfcontained authority. It is right.</p>
|
||
<p>Then what is true love? True love is one thing which everybody wants to touch, everybody wants to live with, everybody wants to stay with, everybody wants to cling to-eternally. Isn’t that true? True love does not change, no matter what situation develops. It is eternally unchanging. We may have lived 30, 40, 50 years or more, but we can never forget our parents’ love. Now it is springtime and we can observe the birds laying their eggs and bringing their new babies into the world. We can find love there, too. When any force from the outside comes to destroy the love relationship existing among you, you will even be willing to sacrifice your life to protect that, won’t you? We can conclude that the power of love has selfauthority.</p>
|
||
<p>What do I have that causes people to love me? The answer is simple: I have always been trying to love the truth and to love everyone and everything. Look around and you will see many Americans who are more handsome than I and who are more knowledgeable. There are many people who are more popular and more famous than I. In the worldly sense, I am not very popular or famous at all. So then why did you turn away from all the luxury in the secular world to join the Unification Church and go through this difficult life?</p>
|
||
<p>You know, outside people have said, “Reverend Moon is a strange man.” When you look at me from the horizontal point of view, you can’t see much discernible difference. I have a physical body just as everyone else does. But what is the substance there? Why do people follow me and display such admiration for me? That’s a real mystery to me. But that phenomenon is the reality so it cannot be denied. That is the problem for American society. They think, “Reverend Moon has some strange power.”</p>
|
||
<p>When a man and woman are in love, there is some invisible power which causes them to cling together. One or both may be tremendously fat or unattractive. But no matter how huge the woman may be, no matter how unattractive the man may be, there is something mysterious keeping them together. That is the strange, mysterious element of love.</p>
|
||
<p>We can look at the relationship between Reverend Moon and the Unification Church members in this light. Regardless of where I go around the world, I see that all Unification Church members are united as one bunch, following my footsteps everywhere. Why does that happen? Outside people may not be able to understand it, but they see this mysterious power. It is the power of love and truth. which can penetrate all the way to the universal level.</p>
|
||
<p>What is the source of this power? Did Reverend Moon bring this power to the world, or did it exist from the beginning? It has existed from the beginning, so why couldn’t everybody adopt or practice it? That is the problem.</p>
|
||
<p>We can observe that in electricity, the plus and minus charges freely relate. As soon as a minus comes into proximity with a plus, they pull together. They don’t have to be told to get together. There is no need for explanation or direction. Naturally and automatically, the plus and minus come together and cling together. According to the same principle, man and woman are originally supposed to be united with truth and love from the beginning. But then why doesn’t this happen in the world today? That is the problem. How can we solve this problem?</p>
|
||
<p>Our title today is based on this phenomenon. There is certainly isolation or separation in the world. Our original mind is heading for the direction of unity, but there is a roadblock preventing us from reaching it. In the field of electricity, the plus and minus charges can be prevented from coming together by what is called resistance. How can we get rid of the resistance in our world? If we don’t have enough power to get rid of the roadblock, we have to find some way to get around it. Either we have to jump over it, or make a hole in the middle and climb through. Or, we have to just attack it and destroy it.</p>
|
||
<p>But then a question arises. If our original mind is heading for that complete unity, and it encounters a roadblock, where did that roadblock come from? Does it stem from God’s creation, at the very beginning, or did it occur somehow in our process of developing? If we say that roadblock or resistance existed from the beginning with God, then we are talking about dualism. We couldn’t even begin to talk about an ideal world, eternal love, or truth, because that would be contrary to such a God. Therefore, we must conclude that this resistance is a product of history and if we really work together, believing in God, we can get rid of it. Correct?</p>
|
||
<p>Religious people say that the roadblock or resistance came about because of the human fall. But nonbelievers say, “There is some roadblock, but we can’t explain it.” They have just a vague answer. History has shown that no matter how hard we have tried to eliminate the roadblock, no matter how much we fight against it, it always comes back, sometimes becoming bigger and more powerful. Why does this happen?</p>
|
||
<p>The only logical conclusion is that there must be some power behind the scenes, something sustaining and controlling that roadblock. We may call it the devil, or evil, or sin. That is the power which keeps us separated from goodness. We have to understand that this power of evil has been operating behind the scenes of human history. Even now, that evil power exists with us and among us here.</p>
|
||
<p>As we understand, God is the essence of absolute goodness and absolute power and authority. If that is true, why does God tolerate the existence of that roadblock? Why doesn’t He destroy it? Does God enjoy seeing the devil using that roadblock among people? No, God doesn’t like that, so there must be a reason why He doesn’t just destroy it. This is not just a matter of logic or reason; something is really there. What is it?</p>

<p>People do not know what is behind the scenes of life. Only God and the devil himself have understood the real reason. No humans have known clearly. When you deal with a lot of people in various situations, you may develop your ability to discern types of people when you first meet. But without experience you can’t have a clear idea of what they are really like. When the time comes for you to marry, do you want to pick your own spouse or do you want me to match you? You want me to suggest your fiancee because you know that I have greater knowledge and ability to evaluate people.</p>
|
||
<p>Can I go to God and say, “God, you know what’s happened, so why don’t You just get rid of Satan?” No, I can’t do such a thing. But if I were to go before God and push and poke Him like that, would He feel happy or sad? Well, think about it-God has been alone all this time, trying to accomplish His universal task and then somebody comes along trying to give Him advice, to help Him and push Him. Don’t you think God would actually be happy for that?</p>
|
||
<p>However, there is one problem here. God doesn’t have His own territory in which somebody can push Him or advise Him. If there were only God or Satan, do you think Satan would ever turn around and help God in that way? What is the essence of Satan? He is always trying to separate God from man and trying to stop God’s word from spreading. When God knows that Satan is always hanging around, trying to stop Him and block Him at every turn, and then God sees somebody else getting close to Him, do you think God’s immediate response would be, “Get away”? Or wouldn’t He say, “Please come on, come on”? When Satan comes around God, do you think God would be glad or wouldn’t He try to push him away?</p>
|
||
<p>Satan is always working hard to stop God’s work, to keep God separated from man. At the same time, if anybody tries to get close to God, Satan always comes in and tries to destroy that person. That is what Satan is about. How can we chase Satan away from us and from God? How can we get rid of this being who has always been trying to confine God and destroy men’s lives? We have to somehow tie up Satan so that he won’t be able to move. That’s the only thing we have to know how to do.</p>
|
||
<p>Let’s analyze the difference between God’s characteristics and Satan’s characteristics. There must be something totally and entirely opposite about them. We can at least say that, can’t we? What is the essence of God’s characteristics? Of course, we know that God is the owner and master of the truth and love. This is true eternally. It never changes or sways.</p>
|
||
<p>Then what are the major characteristics of the devil? We can say that they are entirely opposite, in total contrast to what God stands for. As I said, the essence of God’s characteristics is love and truth. Therefore, we can say that the essence of Satan’s characteristics is false love, cruelty and brutality.</p>
|
||
<p>Another key difference between God and Satan is that God always exists and works for the largest public purpose, whereas Satan is always selfcentered and individualistic. God’s essence and existence is eternally unchanging. However, Satan is always changing; he is temporal and without an eternal base. So by our compilation, God is the master of the whole, and Satan is the master of just one individual, the self. He is the master of selfcentered</p>
|
||
<p>We have to think about our own situation. Are we free of roadblocks, or are we still burdened with resistance? When you think about yourself, can you say that you are a completely publicminded, publiccentered person? If so, then no matter how many roadblocks you may encounter, you will still be able to reach God. But if you can’t say that you are that kind of person, then Satan is just watching and waiting along the narrow road, ready to catch you.</p>
|
||
<p>Public man finds his way along every avenue, in every direction. Individualistic man has only one avenue. Every place is blocked except for one. This is a most important point.</p>
|
||
<p>Then what is public man? Public man is the one whose eyes, nose, mouth, mind and senses are for the public purpose. Think about yourself. Are you a public person or not? You leaders of the Unification Church, what do you think about yourself? Public man of course has five senses, each focused on the public purpose. For example, his eyes and his ears are always centered on the public goal. What is the public goal? The public goal is that which creates goodness for the whole. Do you understand?</p>

||
<p>What is satanic man? He looks just like public man. He has two eyes and ears, but he will see differently with his two eyes. Or he may hear one thing with one ear and another thing with the other ear. He will speak the way he wants, without thinking about God. That is satanic man.</p>
|
||
<p>Satan may ask you, “Which is easier for you-the public way of life or the private, individualistic way?” What is the answer? There is no doubt that living the public way of life is much more difficult. The selfcentered way of life is free and easy, without restrictions or regulations; you just do as you feel. From that point of view, do you think you belong to Satan or God? OK, then, which do you choose-the easy way out, or the difficult way?</p>

||
<p>The conclusion is that the world existing today is torn between God and Satan. It is in turmoil. Therefore, if we want to save or restore this entire world, the entire population has to choose this difficult way and be united and work together. Then we can eliminate the power of Satan and make this a beautiful world of harmony.</p>
|
||
<p>The hope for mankind is for some person or group to appear which can block Satan’s influence. Satan is the only one who erects roadblocks between man and God, so if this group can form a roadblock between Satan and man, that is the world’s hope. That is why we see two distinctly different types of groups in this world. One type will go after selfcentered goals, while the other type will be willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of the public goal.</p>
|
||
<p>Mankind has to find the publicminded way of life. But it is a really painful path of thorns. Who is going to show mankind that this thorny way is the right way? In history, only the religions of the world have been doing this by teaching, “Don’t live for yourself, live for others.” Religions have taught us to love and serve others. sacrificing oneself for others.</p>
|
||
<p>These are the very things Satan hates. In Satan’s dictionary, there are no such words as “love,” “sacrifice,” or “service for others.” He knows nothing about those things. However, in God’s book or dictionary, those are the key words. Those are the words that fill up all of God’s books. When you read the Bible without understanding the essence of the words “love,” “sacrifice,” and “service for others,” you may get tired or bored. However, if you fully understand those terms, you will really enjoy reading the Bible and will find deep inspiration.</p>
|
||
<p>Will your mind or your body enjoy those words? Of course, your mind likes them because it is connected to God and shares in His unchanging and eternal character. However, the body belongs to the realm of change and therefore is connected to Satan and the secular world. So you can say that your mind is the stage for the public way of life and your body is the base for the individualistic way. The mind is the base for God and the body can easily be the base for Satan.</p>
|
||
<p>If we see some delicious food, the body may say, “Hey, go over there and grab some before anybody else comes in.” But your mind will say, “No, no, wait for the others to take some and then take from whatever is left.” In that particular example, we can clearly see God’s side and Satan’s side. Why do we have that kind of dual thinking, one part of us going toward evil and the other toward good? If we just followed the body’s desire, do you think the evil mind would continue to grow, or would it diminish? The evil mind would grow. But if we follow the mind’s direction and our body completely follows, the evil inclination will gradually disappear.</p>
|
||
<p>When we look at this fallen world, we can draw a simple conclusion that whatever the body likes most is the thing the mind likes least. What kind of person do we have to become? Shall we just follow our physical desires wherever they lead, or should the mind be our leader? Should we be a mindcentered or bodycentered person? You know the answer. But you don’t really understand. You may understand this in the morning but in the evening, you may forget. Then when night comes and it’s dark, you totally forget! This is a serious point.</p>
|
||
<p>No matter how evil, confused or fallen the surrounding world is, the very key to solving this problem is within you. It is truly up to you. Whatever the problem we have to solve-all the way up to the liberation of God-the key is within you. The solution is not going to be found in America, or the free world, or the communist bloc. Do you understand?</p>
|
||
<p>As our title indicates, we are isolated or separated between mind and body. What is separating us? It is Satan. Have you seen Satan? How about love? Have you seen love? Suppose there is some breathtakingly beautiful woman who talks all the time about love. If she is all by herself just talking, with nobody to love, then no love exists. However, when she finds a spouse and talks about love, asking him for love, then love starts to function. That love function pulls your eyes and nose, every part of you toward the beloved. This is the reality of love.</p>
|
||
<p>Again, have you seen Satan? Of course, you may not be able to see Satan directly, but when your eyes want to look at something bad or your ears want to hear somebody doing terrible things, then you must immediately realize, “There is Satan.” When you recognize some evil situation, your original mind will cause your heart to pound and you will feel, “Don’t go anywhere near that.” However, if someone’s original mind gives up and becomes totally sick and tired, then that person becomes totally satanic. There is where you find destruction.</p>
|
||
<p>If we don’t know that God exists right behind us, we may be swayed easily by satanic desires or action. But as long as we understand that God exists in reality, our original mind can give us the strength to fight against evil, even though it is very difficult. That is because we have the confidence of knowing that God is supporting us in the struggle. God is an absolute being so He can control everything. No matter how strong the power of your body may be, it cannot continue forever. Therefore, the greatest thing in this world is knowing God’s existence. We have discovered that, haven’t we? Do you know that absolutely?</p>
|
||
<p>As Moonies, we may have walked a very thorny and difficult path up to this point, confronting persecution and roadblocks in our lives. However, we know that God is with us and because of that power we can always march forward and survive even though the satanic world tries to isolate us. By fighting against that power, following the True Parents, you can be sustained. If you feel your body going toward some satanic physical desire, at the same time your original mind and heart, centered upon God, will start beating together, transmitting fear of that evil, urging you to be careful. Because of that very fact, you can find God’s existence within yourselves. That is the power of God dwelling in you, in each person. Not just through Reverend Moon do you find God but also through yourself. Of course, I am teaching you and bringing you the truth and you have to practice and make this truth substantial in your life. Then you can find God’s existence and power within yourself. It is not just found through words.</p>

<p>So, do you know that God exists? Do you just think God exists, or have you discovered God? When you say, “I know God exists,” that may just mean, “I’ve heard about God’s existence from somebody else.” But when you say, “I’ve discovered God’s existence and power,” it means you have put all of yourself-your effort, your mind and thoughts-into it, and you have finally come to the conclusion that God and His power are real. Where do you find God’s power and God’s existence? It is within your original mind-that is where you should start developing yourself, your family, the original nation, world and universe. That is the very place.</p>
|
||
<p>That is why Jesus Christ said, “The Kingdom of Heaven is in the midst of you.” That is, it is in your original mind. Do you think that once the Kingdom of Heaven is a reality within you, someone else will be able to come and steal it from you? If you become the eternal owner and possessor of such an original mind and Kingdom of Heaven, who can ever take it from you? Someone may kick you far away because he wants to steal this treasure from you. The best example of that is when I was sent to Danbury prison. Instead of being weakened when I came out, I was even stronger. Now who is stronger-the United States, or Reverend Moon? I do not follow this nation; America has to follow my example. I do not embrace America because it is great but because you Unification Church members are existing here and following.</p>

||
<p>That is why you have to look at yourself before you criticize and judge other people. No matter where you may go or what situation you may face, you should be able to humble yourself and respect others. That’s the public way of life. If you do that, everyone will be affected by your humility.</p>
|
||
<p>Why do you love me? We might compare the principle involved to doing business, engaging in trade. You know that I am more publicminded and living a more public life than anyone else, so you realize, “As long as I follow Father’s footsteps, I will be adopted by him. I will go the way of victory that he goes.” You’ve got your mental calculator going, adding up all the spiritual profits. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s heavenly business!</p>
|
||
<p>Going back to today’s topic, there is so much talk about isolation, separation, liberation, and so forth. The Soviet Union claims, “We are going to liberate America.” Americans say, “We will liberate the Soviets.” All of this talk, however, is fruitless; nothing will take place unless and until you solve this problem within yourself.</p>
|
||
<p>What is the Moonies’ position? Are you going to be liberated by American democracy? Are you going to be isolated and separated by communism? We don’t want any of that; we have the keys and answers within ourselves.</p>
|
||
<p>So the Moonies’ claim is this: “Neither Russia nor the United States can isolate me or liberate me. I will achieve liberation for myself because it is within me.” That should be your claim.</p>
|
||
<p>Think about how much power has been brought to bear against me. Satan tried every possible avenue, centered on individuals, working through your parents, through your brothers and sisters, your nation, your society, tribe and world. But Satan always failed. When I came to the United States and started my public ministry here, this country tried to separate and isolate me, but that failed. Now I have become the winner and I am able to isolate and separate the influence of individualism from America.</p>
|
||
<p>If there were a collision between my head and America’s individualistic, secular head, which would crack first? What is my secret enabling me to win over this entire country? As I have already told you, I have the secret within myself. I can embrace the entire world within my original mind. The United States government has already given up on Reverend Moon because they recognize their failure. Of course, the British government sued the Unification Church, meaning Reverend Moon, but in the middle of the court litigation, they dropped the charges. They recognized their failure. The same is true with France and Germany.</p>
|
||
<p>But there is one country which is still trying to stop me: the Soviet Union. The Soviet Politburo in particular gets uptodate information on my activities and whereabouts. They are trying to stop and destroy me, but their problem is that they don’t know how to deal with the spirit world. If you don’t know about something, you can’t bring victory out of it. The Moscow government may say, “We have enough wealth and power to destroy Reverend Moon.” But they don’t know that the spirit world is so powerfully working on the other side. Both that side and this side are working together, so there is no way the Soviets can catch up with me.</p>
|
||
<p>In order to achieve a successful result, there has to be a cause, a motivation. Where is that motivation? It is within myself so nobody can take it away. How proud you must be of your Father! Isolation in my life will automatically be overcome; liberation will always come in my life automatically.</p>
|
||
<p>Satan will be destroyed and eliminated; we will find and follow God. Who will do that? You can’t say, “The Unification Church will do that.” You must say, “I will do that.” Do you say that? I don’t trust what you say! I know I can trust myself, but you always change and sway from nighttime to daytime. Answer me, then: Does that mean I should follow you, or you should follow me? Does America have to follow me, or do I have to follow America?</p>

||
<p>I have just a small hand, a small fist, but it has great power. No matter how powerful the force of evil against me may be, just one punch from my small fist will destroy it. You have to have that kind of confidence and power, too! Do you want to have that kind of power?</p>
|
||
<p>After this course of isolation and then liberation, the only thing that will remain is victory. Who will bring the victory, who will be the victors? Do you want to become a victorious person?</p>
|
||
<p>Considering my physical age, you may say, “Father, why don’t you just stay in one place and enjoy your life? Take care of your family.” But I keep myself really busy, traveling between Korea and the United States, doing so many things. The day I left Korea and arrived here was the same day that President Reagan decided to send 3,200 American troops to Honduras to repel the Sandinistas. Also it was the day that Colonel Oliver North was indicted.</p>
|
||
<p>Now Satan is using the turmoil surrounding Oliver North’s situation to separate and isolate the American people from goodness. At the same time, God is working through President Reagan to unite the American people to work for God by sending these troops to Honduras. However, President Reagan himself doesn’t have confidence about this. I am the only one who has the confidence which comes from understanding.</p>
|
||
<p>You may say, “This life in the Unification Church is so difficult that I feel like giving up several times a day.” Is this difficult path wonderful or just mediocre? How many times have I gone to prison because of my mission? You said six times. How many times have you been to prison? Any at all? Think about it. An innocent man has been persecuted and accused, being put in prison six times. Later on, the governments and nations will say, “We are sorry. That was our mistake, our misunderstanding.” Think about how wonderful it will be.</p>

||
<p>If I don’t do this task, who else do you think can take it up? You have to say strongly, “ME!” When you say “me” in Korean, it means “beauty.” So your “me” is precious to the entire world. Even God may say, “I will give myself, my love, and everything in exchange for you.” How wonderful “me” is then. You really have to think that way, having that kind of pride.</p>

||
<p>Do you give your promise, your pledge to be like that? If so, accomplishment and success will be with you forever. Let us pray.</p>
